    Hi Guys,

Just got back from The Silverstone Classic, and got plenty of good pics need to get them loaded up to PB as soon as i can.

Yep got some Mk2 Fords from other shows and a few PA's but as A32Flathead said most of them rotted away, although i have got one over the workshop that needs to be done and is in reasonable shape.

There is a Rock'n'Roll weekender at Hemsby twice a year and they have a cruise down to the sea front, these pics are from the last one 12-05-2012.

Not all of them... Check my albums, I have 2... In New Jersey. Both LHD.

Granted one does need floors and outer sills and some spots in the inner front wings and headlamp panels.....

Great pics Russ, keep em coming!

But...... How on earth did a 54 Ford get a Y suffix reg plate?

  17. Great photos. See a number of cars with what look like US plates on them. Are they just for show or can you actually run with them?

    Hi rld14,

When i get a bit of spare time i will have a look through your albums.

There were some strange anomolies in registering cars over here in the past. Up until 1983, when a car was imported into this country it was given that date of registration for example a 57 Chevy imported in 1980 would be given a V suffix and no one saw this as a problem.

The more unscrupulous people out there had worked out that you could have for example a 1978 Mini export it to Northern Ireland in 1980 and register it leave for a few months then re-import it to the UK and instead of having a T reg suffix Mini you would have a W reg suffix Mini, big money to be made selling 3 year old cars off as 1 year old cars.

Nowadays over here you cannot put a registeration plate on any car that makes it appear to be newer than it really is although you can put one on that makes it appear older. The car that you pointed out can legaly keep the number it was issued with as in the photo although the owner could also contact a vehicle licensing and request an age related plate for his vehicle which the office would supply free of charge, with this particular car it would be given what we call a 3 and 3 ie 3 letters and 3 numbers.

Here is the example i mentioned earlier.1957 Chevy Wagon imported 1980

    1970 GTO imported 1973

    Hi rramjet,

Lots of us run with state style plates over here, i do on my HotRod but not on my Olds. It is illegal to use State style plates on the road/highway over here but the police tended to turn a blind eye to it until more recently.

We have a massive amount of speed cameras over here and many police cars are fitted with what they call ANPR cameras (Automatic Number Plate Recognition). The cameras are programmed to recognise a certain size, thickness, font, and spacing of letters and digits. If you muck about with these it confuses the cameras so the police are now taking a much more stringent line on this.

The same has happened with mud guards/fenders it is illegal to run without them under the rules of construction and use, again the police used to turn a blind eye to it on HotRods but this is changing. I got pulled for it about 18 months ago by a local area traffic car and although he didn't nick me for them he made it quite clear that if he saw me again without them he would (i know him and i believe him).

    Cheers.

    Russ.

    Thanks Russ,

I can't speak for anyone else but it was of great interest to me as I used to race at Santa Pod in the '80s. Hard to believe that Al's Gasser and Brian Thomas' PARANOIA are still around. I gave Brian a "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" streamer with a pith pin for his parachute, wonder if he still has it.

Brings back memories of Dave Pollen's "POLLEN COUNT" Zephyr Zodiac

    Hi Scott,

I havn't seen Dave Pollen for years he built another street car Pollen Count 2 based around an Opel Manta back around 1990, it was a very quick car for the time 8.56/154mph if memory serves me correct.

This pic would be around 1990.

About another five years later Dave built a race car based on a late model Mustang (no pics) which i believe ran high 6 sec 1/4s.

I saw Paranoia a couple of weeks ago but i didn't notice the streamer, however there are quite a few cars now with the "remove before flight" streamers on them.

This pic of Paranoia would be around 89/90 i would guess.

Not many straight 6 Jag powered cars about now. My mate Sid Slattery has got one that i help crew on.

These pics were taken at the Nostalgia Nats 23-06-2012.
