Event Coverage Worth Seeing at Barrett Jackson

I haven't been out to BJ for several years, though it's just across town.....got fed up with the whole thing, quality of cars going downhill, access to the good cars severely restricted, high ticket prices and too many people.

This year the "feature" cars are roped off, but with much better access. We only had three hours to spend and shot only the central feature car area, but were amazed at the quality of at least the featured cars. On shots where I couldn't zoom in past the ropes, I have photoshopped out the ropes.

I'm ready to go back today and see the other 99%.

I think it helped to get the better cars to show up again was to bring back the reserve. It was just to risky in the past few years to run no reserve on high quality cars.

 

Yeah. I remember back in the 80's, there was a perfect Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic being sold. It was literally a jewel, flawless. I was shocked to see that it wasn't even roped off, the driver's door was open and your could stick your head inside. Every attendee was a car person, no one touched it. Times have changed.

I had seen photos of it, but I never realized how clean and simple the rear is until seeing it in person. Say what you want about Harley Earle; I think that Exner had fewer "misses".

*EDIT* That Pierce has a rather rare option. Those headlights were optional from the normal, more traditional, Pierce headlamps that were molded into the fenders.

 

I was not previously aware of this 50's Packard Concept and it was not there yesterday, showed up today.....Kustom all the way!

 

Love that Diablo but the Packard is dreamy

Love love love that Diablo. I wonder if we'll ever see replicas of that car being built out of old sedans, like what happens with rebodied Thirties classics. Hey, if Marty Martino can recreate the lost Pontiac Club de Mer and Chrysler Norseman, why not?

Thanks for noticing Travis. Believe it or not, I only had to do that on two or three; my frame was "inside " the ropes on most of these, thanks to the wide angle lens.

Will you be at the Kansas City World of Wheels? I'll spend part of two days there, probably during set-up. It's my old hometown, hoping to catch up with old friends.

I will be at the KC WoW, most likely on Saturday. I had hoped to show my Galaxie but I just can't afford the time off to drive up and set up. I hope we can cross paths at the show.

 

This car has the proportions as if it were chopped, channelled and sectioned; but it's a stock 1931 Ruxton. I call it the Little Coffin of classic cars.

Those cars are beyond excellent! Im happy to see Barrett Jackson getting diversified again since the musclecar bubble had burst in 2009. They created it so its only fitting they feel the effects. AS much as I love them I can only stand so many 69 camaros, fake Hemi mopars, and all that stuff. Nice shots!
