Done right they can look really nice. There is a 1929 Rolls-Royce a few towns over with its original wood boards and it looks great. Bob
Granted,if they were original to the car such as a Rolls-Royce I can see it but I have seen a lot of nice cars were the owners substituted wooden running boards and really missed the mark. HRP
yea, they are but ugly. never could understand why any one would put money and time into a project and then do that or wood bumpers and those ugly ass cheap mag wheels, 8" front and rear, not that what i think matters
Kinda leanin toward these.... Thanks for all the intelligent input,,, Always count on HRP's sarcasm to make a thread fun. LoL
I'm glad you appreciate my sarcasm,,it's a God given gift! What fenders did you end up using on the rear? HRP
Wood running boards have a home made (hillbilly) look about them. Along with ugly homemade wood dash boards.
Wabbits had a huge ad in street rodder for years. http://www.wabbitsww.com/Pages/Dashes.html I always wondered how many people actually bought them. TP
A touch of history: the very early cars had running BOARDS, not running steel or running aluminum. I guess they could have re-named them running steps but boards just hung on. I think they look great on a 1903 Oldsmobile.
I imagine if some well known builder put running BOARDS on his latest creation, everybody would oooh and ahhh over them. Then we would see everybody trying to copy the trendsetter.....without sarcasm or complaint. BanjeauX Bob
I have wood running boards on my '51. The originals were too rotted out and at the time I was too cheap to buy steel re-pops. They are made from Northern Minnesota White Oak built in a butcher block style with lots and lots of marine spar varnish. They have held up well over the years and done there job, but I will be replacing them with steel units soon.
How well I remember the Wabbits wooden dashes,I knew several guys back in the late 70's and early 80's that used them, they were not cheap and I still see them from time to time. My old 32 5W coupe had a homemade dash that I was going to replace, but I returned the car back to the original owner and he removed it. HRP
...I made wood boards for my ol 38 sedan, painted flat black, I liked em on that car. A lot of people never knew they were wood....it looked a lot better with these than with none.
And history has a pattern of repeating itself, but using wood were the original was metal just doesn't look right to me. Right or wrong we are all entitled to our opinions. HRP
not a truck but running boards non the less. these running boards are wade of wood ,but it doesnt look like it.hey HRP I did it because try to find running boards for a 39 chevy.hard to do, if I do find some I will replace them.
