I am considering splitting the wishbone on my 36
    Stock 1938 axle and bones
    Posies reverse eye spring
    Chassis Engineering shock kit
With the power glide I had to extend the wishbone ball pivot down to clear the pan and still get slight contact now and again.

I see many kits available and understand the need to keep them as close as possible when split.
My question is related to alignment of the spring perch after splitting.
Normally you spread the bones and weld the bungs and then heat the perches for alignment.
I've also read here about cutting the bones behind the axle, leaving the spring/shock shackles on and bending the bone for alignment and welding that, like a pie cut.
Is one way preferred over another or one right and one wrong?
    Thanks

On all the 35-40 chassis I've built over the years I've heated and bent the perches into alignment. I never thought cutting and re-welding the bones was a good idea. Also looked better.

I think heat and bend is the way to go, doesn't change the strength if you let it cool naturally.
