Wisconsin anti old vehicle legislation pending

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Curt R, Jul 22, 2009.

  1. Oh man, you guys are in for a big change of life . From what I'm reading between the lines you are about to go thru a similar scenario that once played out in New Zealand. The powers that be wanted to legislate old cars and scratch built cars off the road and used all sorts of imported (Australian) 'big ideas' to do so.
Luckily for us some members of the NZHRA got involved and offered to develop a system whereby Hotrodders and scratchbuilt fans could build vehicles to a standard agreeable to the licencing authorities which was retrospective and meant that cars built before the date of transition were legit. Our Govt agreed and we now have a fairly tough Certification process to go thru to get a new rod on the road but we dont have any crap out there thats gonna kill someone when the shit welds give out etc.
These guys have produced a nationwide build manual, which we all must build to,to get our vehicles registered for the road.
What it basicaly boiled down to was that we either embraced our National Hotrod Association telling us how to build rods .......or the government.........Guess which one we chose??
We all acknowledge that you guys have had it sweet for many decades in the US, but the harsh facts are coming home to roost for you guys and you are going to have to get proactive or die. The greenies are not Hotrodders .....they don't understand our afliction with old tin....
Forget about squabbles regarding Rat rods versus Trad rods versus chequebook rods, get over your differences and unite.
Rich or poor, hotrodders do what they do and want to continue doing it. If you don't recognise the fact that if you don't utilise your huge collective mental resources and offer to police your own hobby/ lifestyle in a way that is digestible to your government, you will all be driving Prius's
I troll the HAMB a lot and am constantly bummed out by posts telling of another wrecking yard sent to the crusher or your laws that allow your neighbours to complain to the local council and have you remove old cars from your properties.....

There is a large Hotrodding world outside of the US and we regard the US as Mecca(disregard any Religeous etc etc) Don't let us down, Organise.... not in some flashy way but a grassroots effort that every rodder can relate to.You will need their votes...
If anyone reading this rant would like a copy of the build code that keeps our Govt happy with the way we build rods in this country and allows us to persue the lifestyle....contact NZHRA...Google it...........or get a prius!

Can anyone who understands computers better than me send this information to Old Cars Weekly in Iola? They are huge, and nation wide. Those guys may carry some weight.

And I just bought my first Model A today. Title in hand. Maybe I should register it now, even tho it's a project. Is this proposal meant to be retroactive, or just affecting new registrations/ cars from here out?????

    God damn Madison do gooders.................

  6. They're not even Do Gooders... they are parasitic leaches with their own agenda of lining their own pockets.

Yeah, but I might as well buy another hobbyist plate before they raise the "FEE". That may be well how they try to run us off the roads. Jack the price until no one can even afford specialized plates/ titles here.

BTW Mark, car is at the shop, beer is cold, and I've got a big Doyle poster and some steel darts......................:D

  11. A big thanks to the moderators for letting this thread live.

A thank you for the show of support and concern from the HAMBers.

Our immediate plan is to get a lot of people to the hearing. A large group shows interest and concern. The nature and tone of the people speaking for the state and what they say will have bearing on how we deal with them. Forewarned is forearmed and we do not give warnings. Besides that George Orwell stuff is happening, more and more.

No parades, drive to's, drive ups, mass whatevers, yet.

Now, that the federal clunker bill is alive there is a whole lot of interest in getting older vehicles off the road. I will expect many states will get very creative in accomplishing that goal. Again, everybody watch your states transportation, licensing and registration departments for a discusions about new rules or regulations, especially written proposals.

Hope to see some of you in Madison, Wi on the 29th.

Thanks, again for the HAMB and HAMBers.

That's the best call to action I've heard in a long time.

    Yes,it is! Remember,elections have consequences.

  16. I forwarded the info on this pending legislation to my club members here in WIS and our guy that investigates stuff like this AND I GOT MY ASS CHEWED, BECAUSE THEY SAY THE WHOLE THING IS BOGUS!!!!!!! so convince me it isn't, so i can chew some of their butt.

  17. if, I understand your post, "our guy" believes the legislation is "bogus", like, it will not have any affect on old cars etc. Then, tell "our guy" to come and "CHEW ASS" on the people that attend the hearing in Madison, they are concerned about the legislation and want to make sure our cars and hobby are safe. Maybe, in the process of "CHEWING ASS", he can impart to us, his wisdom and deep understanding of why this legislation is "bogus". If, that is his belief.

  18. In the effort to protect your clubs rights... your guru known as "Our Guy" doesn't understand the power of "Bogus Legislation"... clowns like him forget that it takes effort equal to the Idiocy used in dreaming the laws up to get rid of them!

Therefore we gather in mass so we can present logical solutions to an illogical government plan (which can and will take on a life of it's own if left unabated) and minimize collateral damage to our hobby and many peoples livelihood.

Maybe if he got involved in the "REAL" process... he'll see and understand what the real fighters of justice have to go through to cover his lazy ass from run-a-muck government officials.

He obviously wasn't a part of "Chapter Trans 305" which Curt, myself, and 30 plus clubs, gathered together with a multitude of privately funded Lawyers and worked so diligently to pass that saved this "Hobby's" proverbial ASS!

I hope you relay this message to him and hopefully this influential individual will come down to Madison and share his wisdom with the legislation!!!;)

I think more imprortanly that guy belives the misconception the system works as it should, and not like it does. We'd all be fine if it works as it was suposed to, to govern and protect, and not shove crap like this up our asses

  21. i haven't heard from him, but other club members have responded and they are making their contacts to help out. thanx for all the additional info and comments to forward to "our club guy". i don't mind being corrected on something, but when you are trying to spread the word, get support, inform and take action, you don't need to be slammed as if you were the guy trying to pass along bogus bullshit!!

That sounds like a whole bunch of horseshit to me man. Sounds similar to a bill they tried to pass in california a few years ago. Luckily, we had some reps in the capital building in Sacramento that were "heavily" involved in hot rodding and the bill sort of got swept under the rug. Good luck with that you guys and gals out there, it doesn't sound good at all for the old car set. Silvertongue devil nailed it right on the head, most abandoned or deserted vehicles are LTD's late 80's early 90's import machines, and trucks. Hope it all turns out well.

I've got a gig on Wednesday night, but give me a meeting place and time and you'll see a black '59 Cadillac roll up to the capitol steps. If this is what it's going to take to stop these assholes, so be it. Just as was earlier said, they're not taking my hot rods. No Way.

For all you who think OBAMA is the next great President ... He will stand behind this 100%

He already wants ALL carbureted vehicles BANNED by 2012 !!

Can we afford this CHANGE ?

  28. Mark! Mark! NO! NO! not at the State Capitol Building

THE HEARING IS AT THE HILL FARMS STATE TRANSPORTATION BUILDING
4802 SHEBOYGAN AVE MADISON WI 10:00 AM JULY 29, 2009

the Hill Farms building is west of the State Capitol Building by a few miles.
Meeting at the State Capitol Building will be a waste of time and parking money.
I will be going directly to the Hill Farms building.

Your WRONG! We need people with brains voting for the people who are running for public office. It’s a given that the politician, no matter what party they belong to is going to be looking out for the big money interests. Where were we while our constitutional rights were being gutted by George Bush? The majority was more interested in the next American Idol or who was dancing with the stars. If we let this happen it’s our fault so don’t blame the tree huggers or anyone else, blame yourself. “THE PRICE OF FREEDOM IS ETERNAL VIGILANCE
