I need to chop the window rubber on my car after chopping the top and am wondering if anybody has any tips for bonding the rubber back together. Does anybody know if tire vulcanizing cement will bond adequately?

    Thanks

Probably not. Different compounds. I'd test it on the piece you cut out. I'd probably fit the gasket in such a manner that the two ends are pushing firmly against each other (cut it a little too long), and use a dab or two of black 3M rubber cement to seal it.

Superglue works very well on them.

There is a product (2 phase) from Cool Chem.

I first saw these guys putting on a demo at a GG's show where they joined the ends of a piece of rubber solid tube. They then had 2 guys try to pull it apart. Can't be done. I thought it was BS but bought some anyway,

We have since used it on all of the rubber from my chopped 52 chevy and any time we have to cut and rejoin rubber gaskets or window weather strip.

IT WORKS you can't even see the joint if you make a nice straight cut.

I wouldn't use any thing else.
