Hot Rods Willys we have known !

  1. AWESOME CARS ... g-willys

  2. A couple of real barn finds...these sedans came out of southern Minnesota many, many years ago. They were nearly rust free, but the farmer kept his tractor in the same shed, and it looked like he backed into those sedans many times over the years. We actually sold one while towing it home (it went to Iowa). We went back and picked up the 2nd sedan, and cleaned it up after we got home...when it sold, it also went to Iowa...Both cars were completed and on the roads as street rods by 1999. g-willys

  5. The factory 2-dr is a rare Willys body (I wish I knew how many they did make) I had a '39 2 dr body and sold it to someone in Ohio...interesting factsthat told you ir was a factory 2 dr...Window had a removable inside trim piece, or frame, and the whole window mechanism went together from the inside not through the slot in the door of a 4-door.
To my knowledge they only made factory 2 doors in '38 & '39. g-willys

  6. Willys '36
    I don't mind jeeps
...had a guy call me once, saying 'I've got an early Willys that runs...are you interested?"
I headed over to his place immediately (only about 20 miles) When I got there...found out it was a '47 CJ2a...certainly an early willys to him...but it did run, and he didn't want much for it, so I bought it. Had it for at least 10 years, and sold it for more that I paid for it. Taught my kids how to drive a stick shift with it.

  7. My pickup Truck...the pictures say it all...I always called it a '41, but any Willys person will know that it is a 38 cab, and a'41 outer look . It was just a great ride, and I put over 14 K miles on it, before moving on to my coupe. Motor was a

I have always been facinated by the Willys vehicles that went to Australia...those are a couple of great examples.
It's my hope that you can fill in some of the blanks...were there any other body companies besides Holden, and TJ Richards? How is it that Willys cars were often very different than the same type of models here in the states.
Did they ship mainly the front sheetmetal, or whole cars. Do you know approximately how many ended up being build in Austrailia? An acquantance from New Zealand, told me their Willys vehicles were the same as US versions.
But in your country there were many many differences such as convertibles, Utes, touring cars (4 dr sedans with a convertible top)...extra windows put in, etc. For instance the '40 pictured had running boards...over here they didn't have the running boards starting in 1940 (except as an option), and they didn't have wipers below the windschield until '41-42...and no opera window, until 41 also. No turn signals on the fender either. The body on the '38 is way differen't too...even looks longer, plus the extra windows...and the 'hump' trunk which didn't show up over here until 1940. Hope you can shed some light on them. Thanks...g-willys

Very Cool Sign, I saw an Original Large Willys Dealership Sign sell recently but it needed a lot of work and went for big money. Here is a picture of the sign.

@KingWilly is there any chance of you posting more pictures of the 33 Coupe, the 38 Coupe, the 38 Clipper and the 36 Pickup? It's not often that you get a chance to see and study pictures of original cars.

There have been some fantastic posts on this thread so far.

I am posting this pictures for a friend that is bringing this one back from the dead. He dropped it off at the sandblaster today and has been buying parts little by little

  23. Great find...exciting to see one so close to the scrap pile, make it to the person with a dream, great patience, and YES more than a few $$.
Here are two of the nicer coupes I have found, the top one is the last Willys I found. I first saw it between 1975-1980.
Paid a number of visits to the owner, but he would not sell. After almost 10 years of trying I gave up, as he did not want to sell. Got a call from a friend (almost 15 years later) that said there was a Willys coming down from near the Canadian border, and would be for sale...when he described it, I began to think it could be the one I tried for in the 80's. When I contacted the new owner, he said come on over and look at it...it was still on the trailer. We struck a deal, and he delivered it across town to my driveway...the year was 1999! I was surprised at how good it still was since I last saw it.

The 2nd one was a car I found in the mid 80's very near to where I lived...less than 20 miles. It too was solid, but I already had the coupe that would become my daily driver, and a good friend from southern Minnesota who I knew badly wanted one...so it went to him and he had nearly 15 or so years of great fun with it. Has 2 pictures at his house with the coupe parked in each one next to the state enter sign...one said now entering Maine, and the other said California
and the west coast...you can see it done in black primer. IMG_20180121_133731765 (1).jpg IMG_20180122_233242055.jpg
    And finally a red & black combo. Laska's Coupe.jpg

  24. Interesting picture...I noticed there is no opening visible for the gas filler. The hole on the fender appears to be too low to be a '41-'42 fender. Looks like a 37-38 door handle, and runningboards. g-willys IMG_7654.JPG

Those are some very nice coupes. The 39 really catches my eye. You have definitely had some nice ones. The pictures are great and even better with the stories and history.

Yes the coupe that I posted is a 38 with some modifications. Take a very close look at the first picture that I posted of it.
