Just wondering what people have used for rear fenders on Willys Pickups 1937-41 other than the stock ones? Photos would be great. Bob

Early 50's Dodge truck fenders are a go-to for these. Same shape as the Willys but wider. They are slightly easier to find than the Willys, fit not by much.

I think that Dodge is a good choice. Most I have seen are 40-41 Ford pickup rear fenders and readily available in fiberglass. Many of these pickups were created from sedans use various beds/fenders.

This isn't meant to piss off Willys purists, just something I was thinking about, what rear fenders work out that look like "normal" 1937- 1941 era rear fenders? The 1940 Ford rear fenders seam too large in my mind. Bob

This is my truck. I know it’s not traditional for this board. It has the above mentioned dodge fenders. They are wider than the stock willys. They have a very large radius, toe they need at least a 33” tall tire.

When I first built it 25 years ago I tried the same era ford fenders and the fender was too big looking in comparison to the truck.

    Hello,
When we were invited back to Lions Dragstrip in 1964 by our good friend Atts Ono, we went with some apprehension. It was to be the debut of Atts Ono’s immaculate red, 1940 Willys Coupe that was slated for the B/Gas class competition. My brother and I had not been to the dragstrip since our accident and long recovery time. In between, life also intervened and took up most of our time. But, I took my 16mm movie camera and recorded a lot of footage to commemorate the debut of the Willys Coupe.

By this time period of 1964, a lot had changed since our days back in 1959-60 gas coupe competition days. The trend was moving on to lighter weight bodies and of course, the technology was also drastically improved. Now the original light weight 40 Willys coupes were mixed in with lighter weight 33 Willys coupes in the various classes. Of course, there were still some old powerful stand alone racers, like the SWC and Big John Mazmanian in the old style 40-41 Willys coupes.

There were several Willys trucks in attendance and one of them was the original “up in the air” stance, Silver Dollar truck. It was unusual to say the least. The rear fender was modified to cover the wide M&H slicks.

This meet was pretty outstanding and was one of the only Saturdays that provided racing for all Gas Coupes and Sedans in their own Class division, day.

Bob how many Willys purist do you think are on Hamb? In the day most of the guys I knew use trailer fenders. That's what was on my 36 Willys and Sanzo's 41 P/U.

Hi Pat, I'm just wondering if anyone ran a 1935-40 style rear fender on a Willys pickup, the stock ones and bed just look like they don't match the flowing lines of the nose & cab. Bob

I really like the ones on this truck. Not sure what they came from or if they are custom Willys ones, but I think they look better that the stock fenders.

Swade how did that roadster get in there? lol. Bob it seems like Willys went the utilitarian way instead of the styling way. I was designing a 40 Willys crew cab ramp truck and I had 46 GMC PU rear fenders for it. I thought it looked right style wise.

That is the style fender I'm thinking about, I also think the 1939 nose with the unique headlights is the most evil looking. Bob

Agree ^^^^^^^^ the first one I ever saw was Jack Merkels black 39 Willys B/GS in 1962. I was hooked after that.

This was in Classic Trucks Magazine last year. They used 1940 Ford fenders and modified them a little bit. I think they follow the lines from the front fenders pretty well. Sorry for the bad picture. IMG_0194.JPG

Bob you sure are an optimistic sort! I definitely am not looking for future projects and am cleaning out stuff, I still have enough work to last as long as I live.

I’ve never seen one done with them, but I always thought that rear fenders from a 40 dodge coupe would look good. They have some unique body lines that look similar to stylings used on Willys

Day dreaming is still free, building another car around a radiator cap is something I'm not going to do. Not that collecting parts isn't fun. :) Bob

  24. Well the blown Olds that was in that wrecked roadster went into the Willys truck, so it's all irrelevant..ha ha
I have a 41 Chevy p/u and I like the rear fenders on it, but they might be long for the customary short beds on a Willys, I actually shortened my bed/wheelbase 8 1/2 inches and it's still long compared to W. 20190827_192737.jpg

  25. I know Earl if you want me to ask what fenders are on it ?

That would be awesome if you could do that. I am getting ready to start a 1937 build and I love the look of those.
