As some of you know the frame is trash on my J, What do you think a new one would cost? I've got about 3 thousand to spend on it but is it enough???
I know from experience, that you build a Model A Ford frame in maximum of 2 days plus the cost of the steel. I suspect a Henry J is more complex, but maybe you've got some pics?
There are pics of the frame on this thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202640
Looks as though you can either; replace the bad sections w/similar section "C" frame material, or pull the body and check it out and do a thorough rebuild. On this HAMB board, there have got to be some good crafter types that live within an hour of your place. If you've got the room to do it, pull the body and mark out the areas needing repair. Then get some opinions on sources for frame material. Even a Lincoln juke-box welder and some idiot-rod (iron powder?) 7018 etc. will do it up fine.
Here's a pic of a H/J frame with narrowed rear and M-2 ifs, doesn't look very complex, and would be even less so with a straight axle.
i would bet someone could build you the rails for 3,000.....but suspension and all, dont count on it.
$3k could get you a roller, it all depends on what you want. What are you looking for? Straight axle or IFS? Stock rear setup or something custom? Plan on running a different motor and transmission? What look are you going for, gasser or Custom. There are to many variables without knowing what you want. I heard of one that was put on a S10 frame.
I want to build a gasser solid I-beam ect. stock rear end set up as its already built up. hope this helps
yep, 110's are good enough for frames, just remember to pre heat, and grind your joint edges at an angle. better penetration, and more material.
i would do it for that no problem ladder bar rear straight axle with raduis rods and a transversed spring or straight axle with parallel leaf tk
