Art & Inspiration WILD PIPES...cool and crazy headers picture thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, Mar 25, 2015.

  1. Some headers are wild, some are beautiful, some are all business, some are all show, some are pure art, some are pretty funky. Here is a picture thread for us to share header pics.

These don't really qualify as wild, and a bit pointless really besides to say I made them. It was fun....! 999810_10152404889576139_2908248009029150849_n.jpg

This shot from Houston in '58 is one of my favorites. Some big names in attendance! 1958houstonbig.jpg

These are two T roadsters by the same owner only 50 years apart. The first pic is a Latham blown 339 cu. in. small block. The engine was originally in a 58 Corvette and the headers were Hedmanns with square dumps grafted on.When the engine was installed in the T the dumps hit the frame rails.Rather than spring for new headers Ken flipped them over and swapped them side for side. They were ugly as hell but they worked. The pic was taken right after I striped it but before the headers were chromed and the fenders added so it had to be about 1960 or 61.
The second pic was of Ken's last car that he built before he passed away.A widened and lengthened glass body on a 118" wheelbase frame with an all aluminum 572 cu.in. Merlin motor pulling about 900 hp without the NOS engaged. The headers were 3" diameter tubing that were fitted to the heads without gaskets by machining grooves into the exhaust ports so the pipes would fit.The collector was 6" diameter(IIRC)and it had baffles inside. The sound was unreal.
