I'm looking at buying an old Weiand 3 Piece tunnel ram for my big block. I have a few questions 1. Why the 3 piece design, all the new ones are 2 piece? 2. What year range did they make this design? 3. Anyone have any experiance running this type on a Mopar? Thanks
The three piece design was to allow the tops to be easily changed. originally called "Channel Ram" Some racers experimented with flow spiders and fillers. I used them exclusively back in thr day. I still have a few BBC both oval and rectangle port intakes. Several tops including single carb top, dual forward mount, side mount and 4500 style. Using one on my present Studebaker Gasser project. 500 cube BBC Oval port.
Bob, Thanks. Sounds like you like em then? I know on the new style rams the top plenum is differant between makes and models but is the top part of this type the same between makes? Thanks again
There were a couple different model two piece built later. But the late sixties-early seventies three piece BBC tops are all interchangable
Well mine is going on a BB Mopar. After I get it would you mind doing a couple measurements for me so I can find out if the tops interchange? That way if I want to change the top I know what to look for. Thanks
These are the later 2 piece intakes. I have one that has two different height 4500 tops. Another with regular holley bolt pattern
The tops look the same as my thee piece. If my geezer brain can remember. I will get some measurements for you. At the shop next week, or PM me.
The carbs you wanna look for are Holley 660 center squirters....they were designed for 2x4 apps and have a progressive linkage on the secondaries...
I put a single 4 tunnel ram on my 68 roadrunner back in the mid 70s.It boggled my mind how much more power the engine made with it. didnt cut the hood. Nah, I'd get invited to a speed contest and go by me house yank the hood off, put the ram on, hook up the accel cable with a tape player ground strap, use a stiffer return spring and in 20 minutes I was at Chandler road waiting for my "date" for the dance. Third gear in that car with the T ram was fly past time.
Actually. Thays what most people used but I hated them. Always loaded up with bad idle cirquits. I went to a couple of short bowl 750 DP carbs, no loaded plugs and better 1/4 mile times. Large cube BBC
