Hey, name's Burton, and I recently bought my '56 Country Sedan.
Straight six, 3 speed with O.D., assuming it has either 3.73 or 4.11 gears in a Spicer 44.

Un dug it out by Belle Plaine, from a '56 grave yard.

Plans: Y-block or small block, 5 speed conversion, clean interior, and leave the outside just like that.

    Nice to meet you all!

The hood is off of my brother's old '56, that I believe is somewhere on this website, slammed flat black '56 2 door. Anyway, the hood meant a lot to me because family, etc.

Lots of pictures, because people like pictures.

  2. Welcome, Burton, from the Pacific Northwest!

Good luck with your project; looks like it had a twin - in the graveyard background.

Yeah, it was a triplet. There's a light green one, pictured, and there was a pink and white one off to the back. Which is where I'll be sourcing my front end from.

Gonna be a real fun... project.

Oh yeah, I do. And I'm probably moving somewhere that doesn't have a garage. So I gotta start making one of those things too. :(

If you need some parts or help with the car, look up Jim Winters from Wichita. He's a big 55-56 Ford man.

He sounds really familiar, I'll check him out.

On a side note, thanks everyone for the warm welcomes. Glad to be here, and with people that share the same passions.

Welcome from Kansas. Hey Burton, you've got your work cut out for you, but it will be worth it. That's mine on the left, with all the rust on the inside, and "fred flintstone floorboards". I think the whole pan will have to be replaced, but it will be worth it.
We come through Belle Plaine about once a year on our Texas pilgrimages to see family.

Welcome from Wichita. Just take it one piece at a time and stay within your budget. Remember this is a fun project and don't make a job out of it. You will have it on the road and enjoying the fruit of your labor in no time.

On the subject of "you're a brave man"; I'm 19, this is my FIRST project car, and I've always had a liking for this car, so yeah, I really have my work cut out for me. I know how to work on new stuff, and absolutely love the simplicity of the old stuff.

Y-block power is a really big possibility, but availability and prices aren't in my budget yet.
Might start off with a frankenstein straight six or a 302 to get me moving for now.

    Status update about car!
    No floors.
Frame damage, extensive. Front cross member is gone.
Rust, everywhere. Anything and everything on the bottom is either gone or going away.
Fenders are trash, front radiator/header panel are trash, can't fix grille in current state.
Quarter panel and rear end have extensive damage because brother pushed car into garage using Expedition.
    All but one door works.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE. Regardless of what brother and friends say about this car, she will make it. She's my "Christine". I see a lot in her, and she's going to become a mean wagon once again. Through all the blood and sweat, I think she'll turn out quite nicely.

    Her pretty side:
