Holy shit, I'm glad that yellow 33 isn't my car! I got paid to give the man EXACTLY what he wanted. If he wanted shocking neon pink I'd have given it to him. As much as I don't like maroons I do know some fairly elegant shades and the best ways to achieve depth and vintage tones. Just because I don't like it I won't bag on it either. Good thing we're not talking about UPS brown. Talk about a shit storm...
You crack me up. You did have a good post a couple years ago about how to make maroon a lot less boring, I still have it saved and shared it with my painter. I decided to chase the royal maroon for the reason I opened my post with but I appreciated your expertise and your advice. As for the yellow, I only owned one yellow car. It was a 69 Mach 1 coincidentally. I loved that car. I noticed you shot the rear wheel wells black. Are there other black accents planned like black frame or ?
I remember a passage from a John Irving (I think) novel, wherein the protagonist was getting his knob polished by his girlfriend in his car in his driveway when they were struck by an old maroon Buick ("...the color of dried blood"...). The young girlfriend was killed, he suffered a grievous injury (), and his wife was not pleased. His fortunes went downhill from there...
LOL, I just always think of that maroon Buick the color of dried blood whenever I see a maroon car, even my own! ;-)
The car is done. The underside of the fenders are black, the frame too. The interior has black wool hogshair carpet with white border to go with the seats. About the only HAMB friendly thing I could show is the console, an art deco design piece. The rest is non-conforming.
Rangoo Red was the 1968 color of the Ford my dad and I picked up new at the dealership....kinda close to your wagon. We always joked about it......
Thank you, but right now it is beautiful parts, it will become a beautiful car when I get to drive it buddy! They aint cars if they don't run and drive,
Haha, well your pile of parts beat mine. I love burgundy and purple for cars. Good for you for not following the sheep. Take care Bud Sent from my SM-J727T1 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It matches with everything you've done with this car, it is beautiful! I don't think you could have chosen a better color than the maroon!
Here’s a question for any Canadian Hambers. My first choice for maroon is mandarin or Moselle maroon but from what I can tell so far in my research I can only find it in lacquer which in my understanding we can’t get in Canada? We can only use water based paints. Any info you boys can share would be much appreciated. We are close to paint time so trying to get this figured out Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
...Holy environmental controls Batman...Can there not be a computer paint scan done and match for a accepted paint type...
I painted a 35 Buick that I built some years ago a maroon. A Chrysler color called Rocket Red on Dodges. It was a medium maroon that didn't have any metallic. Looked great. I'd use it again in a heart beat. The coupe went in black because it looked more sinister to me.
Great colour. I recommend 'Maroon B' a British Leyland colour on Morris Minors approx 67 to 71. Well worth a look.
My brother had a TR-6 that was maroon. Looked fast sitting still...which is good since that is what it did most of the time due to electrical issues.
