"Geez" I thought people hated "T" buckets with SBCs in them? I personally do not dislike any car. I dislike the owners of ANY car. with their my s*** doesn't stink attitude. I sold my "T" bucket and bought a "56 Chevy with a '69 327 and a muncie four speed. I love it. !Happy Thanksgiving!

Personally, i have no problem with the 55-57 Chevy's, it just depends on what the model is. I think my only issue is that fact that everybody and their mom seems to have a 57 Bel air...and thats all i ever see! lol. I'm more partial to the 56 because it's got a smoother body, and you don't see enough in nice shape...ya know? I just cant seem to go to a car show without seeing 6 friggin Bel airs...and after seeing so many of them they become a passing fancy..I do like the Nomads and all those..but I think you get my drift.

I think it's not the car that people don't like it's what people do to them. 55 chevys are my fav car, i drive one evryday but i have seen quite a few tri fives that would turn anyone off. you just want to yell at the owner "WHAT THE F**K DID YOU DO TO YOUR CAR!!!!"

  8. I had 4 of them before I graduated high school... And "no" it didn't take me 6 years to graduate...!;)

2 were 55's... one was a 2 door hardtop with a Glass tilt front end, straight axle and a Pontiac 389 tri-carb with a 4 speed. The other was a Dark Blue 2 door sedan that was a Spitting image of the American Graffitti 55 but was running a Snotty 283 with a 3 speed.

I got free admission to see "American Graffitti" for having my buddy Carl drive the 55 and Me driving my 34 ford coupe on the streets in front of the movie theater and parking before the ticket windows. (I saw that movie in the theaters 22 times for free!!)

Then 2 were 56's one had a 327 dual quad tunnel ram and a 13 to 1 compresion ratio (in 1974!) and the other was my daily driver with a straight six and a three on the tree...!

After High school I bought a 57 Vette and a Pink 57 2 door hardtop stocker from the original owner...!

Man, I'm getting a headache trying to remember what we gotta hate and what we gotta like. Let's see--
Hate: Tri Five Chevys, 32 Fords, Fiberglass cars, Pony Cars, Muscle Cars, Anything newer than _______, Anything I couldn't afford to build, Anything built by the big name villians.
Love: Late 40/early 50 moredoors, anything with rust, anything with primer, (exception to the anything I couldn't afford rule) anything built by the big name heros.
I know I've left some out sorry. I've got to go get some aspirin.

I kinda have a theory about but it's kinda hard to explain. When I was growing up, every kid wanted a tri five, ESPECIALLY a 57, gradually most of us got bored with them, we loved them so much that everyone had one (that's why there's so many left), but whenever there's a lot of something it just ain't cool anymore.
Then of course, the so called "cool" guys start acting like they never liked them and anyone who likes such a cliche car just ain't cool! Add the fact that most guys lack the imagination or courage to do anything different with them and you end up with a boring group of followers like the corvette crowd, and who wants to be lumped into that group.
I think what it really boils down to is that most of us see what great cars they are, we just can't stomach a lot of the owners, so we feel that we're too "cool" to like the car, because people might mistake us as "one of them" and it's a shame, since when I think back to my hot rod roots, next to a actual hot rod, my dream car was a tri five Chevy, especially a nose high 55 post with no front bumper and radiused rear fenders.

I don't hate them, but neither are they my favorite cars. I do think they're terribly overexposed, along with '32 Fords. Neat cars, but I don't wanna eat roast beef at every meal.

I would like to own a '56 Nomad or a '56 210 hardtop. It's never gonna happen, though, because they're already beyond the range that I'm comfortable spending to acquire a car.

PS: I agree with the view that very few of these Chevies offer anything new; we've pretty much seen it all already. I was surprised how much I liked Roy Brizio's new '55 last year, because it's not one of my favorite models but I think Roy really got it right (except for the too-tall rear rims). Goes to prove again that God is in the details.

thats cool,,everyone is entitled to their own opinions..you sound like a hardcore hotrodder ,i mean you DO have an AARP card,,whatever that is...
...i am not into cars shows,,never carred anything about sitting around all day in one spot,,but hey, if thats your thing thats cool! and if you enjoy knowing that you are the ONLY guy at the show with a 61 fairlane then morepower to ya!

ive been on this website for about 6 years(my original join date was 2001) and over the years i have heard alot of tri-five chevy bashing,,usually it seemed it was mostly the newbie type/trying to be cool types that did the bashing,...but hey,,your the exception to the rule, like you said,,your not a newbie and youve have your AARP card,,so i think that says enough...
when i started on this thread ,i dont give a fuck if anybody likes tri-fives or not,,i was just wondering why?

I have owned mine for 27 years now and it makes me smile everytime I get behind the wheel. 454, 5 speed and a 3.50 gears in a 9" Ford.

I can assure you that this is one Tri-Five that gets driven. No Poodle skirt, no crying doll. NO DICE!

Not red and white. Not teal and white. But House of Colors Orange flake with a big old handful of gold thrown in for good measure!

Changing to a set of steelies over the winter. Maybe that will make it more HAMB friendly:confused:

Hey, you can't please all of the people all of the time. But as long as you please yourself...

    P.:D

Ok Picture trail is down so no picture, will post one later.

I have always liked them, but I see how so many are done with cragers, a bbc, and all the emblems and door handles still on them. I was always kinda of partial to my old one.

  25. I've always liked them. Problem is around here, everyone has a red one with polished Torq Thrusts. No imagination! Fault lies with the owner around here, not the car. Hell, my 1st car was a 57 Chevy wagon. Clean, ran but smoked for $20 back in 70

Your remembering the same one I do. Easily the best '56 I've ever laid eyes on. As far as where it went, I haven't a clue. maybe the twilight zone, just maybe it never existed except in our minds. RIP

JUST KIDDING SAM, the red and white is a great combination. Besides it's like the Kookie T, the owner is by far the best part. :D :D

    Ha Ha Ha....
There is a car... bone stock.... like out of a sales brouchure... from the fifeties....
Which one does RILLY look good????

mmmhhh a black 57 Eldorado Biarritz maybe.Or a 59 Eldorado Seville. What else? Yeh those Virgil Exner Chryslers, when they got the right color. With them stock hubcaps and chrome shit on? I can't think of one stocker I would like to drive.

There are cars that look cool stock. Yes Muscle Cars. They do often, 'cause they are wild styled.

Most other cars need sth. done to it. Some more, some less. A Tri five needs defenitly less! And that sth. u have to honest when it comes talking about a car.

When I bought my 57 2 door Hartop, I actually wanted a 67 GTO. But the owner tried to rip me off. So I said f-u, and I went drinkin' with my buddies.
One told me about this 57 Chevy he had seen for sale.
I thought "A 57, no I do not want to be one of those 57 Chevy Rockaroundtheclock guys" Yep we also got 'Em here in Germany!
But then I saw the picture.
Man is this the car I saw about 18 years ago, when I was 13 years old, and beeged my mother while we were driving in Muinch to stop at this used car lot, that I can look at it PLEEEEEAAASSSEEE!
She did (I love her not just for that!) I went there, and there were two. A red one with a tube grille and Cragar S/S, and a blue one with a funky interiour and Ansen Sprints. I was out of my mind!!!!!

(The only one I had seen before, was when I was about 9 years old, and I stood on the main road alone on sunday afternoon, and was waiting for old cars to come by. Old VW, old Opels, old German Fords, was all I wanted.
Traffic was quiet, and I was dissapointed, and wanted to go home. One last look down the road, and there was sth. gleamin' in the sun.
    What is that?
It came nearer, and then I knew this was the same car that was on a poster in my room. The same car I had seen in a old movie, and the same car that I had from "MATCHBOX" with a flip front!

A FIFTY SEVEN CHEVY, A FIFTY SEVEN CHEVY! I shouted out loud like a maniac! I hit my hands in the air and shouted and jumped and waved!!!
What passed me was a Bel Air Coupe in black. It had the armed forces licence plates on, and the black coloured guy behind the wheel was smiling all over his face with his white teeth, and waved at me! I was soooo proud!
Ever seen a little kid with nearly a heart attack?!!!!
I looked until the chrome gleame was gone on the horizont.
I ran home and told my folks. Showed the posters and my model, but nobody really understood why I was so outta my mind.
A 57 Chev in my lonesome German Hillbilly Village! I couldn't believe! I decided, one day I will have one!)

Half a year later when I saw that blue one at the dealers lot, I saw it at my first american car show. I asked the guy, who was about 20years old and wore a cowboy hat, drank beer, and had some chicks around him, if he bought it in muinch at that lot. He said yes, and was totally bummed that I knew so much about old cars. I even have the picture still.

O.K. then I looked at this Chevy two years ago, and it was the one.
I looked at it with that metallic blue paint, 4 speed, and that crazy interiour.
I was like; "How can I NOT by this car??????
I bought it, and I "hate" it, and for me it's the most beautiful '57 in the world. ;)
It's rough it's loud, it revs 7500rpm, it has a old posi, a Muncie, and it must have been build somewhere in the 70's in Texas.
I think it is a real Hot Rod. And I love it even more, since I saw it drive, when my buddy cruised around 1 month ago.

Some of so called "old style Rodders" here say the same blabla 57 is not cool bullshit.
These guys do know nothing I think! A lot of the real old school Rodders (who drive authentic Hot Rods with Flatheads say: Man this car is sth. very special, and one of the coolest around. We do not exactly know why, but it is!) There u go! There's a red perfect restored one here too, but this car does nothing to me. It's not bad, but also not good I think.)

U can fuck any car up. Even a 36 Ford 3 window (Man I love 'em) And u can make same cool shit out of nearly every pos that was produced.

    And one more:

I am a man who does not give a f... about what is hip or what not. I do like what I like.
If somebody doesn't like a 57 Chevy, I'm fine, but if someone hates it, just because he thinks he has to, then he should get more self esteem, and listen to his own voice.
If it's a 57 Chevy, a 69 Lamborghini Miura (would die for it, my dreamcar!)
    Or my
'69 DODGE CHARGER R/T 4 Speed. (maybe the coolest car that was ever produced!!!!!! Not just maybe, I believe it. O.K. I couldn't find a 68, that is even cooler!) I do not care. I'm not in a old style primer black religion. I'm a car guy. I like my old shit, and that's it. And I would never ever get a tattoo, piercing or earring, or run around like a idiot, just because all the others do!

Another magic thing on the 57 is, that if u look at all that chrome junk on it, and look at each part of it's own, u think. Man what is that stuff?!
    And it looks kinda strange.
But all together it works. Yes it does. I tried this out.
A tri chevy looks est, when it's done, so it can do it's best! Racing Gasser (I need one though!!!), or a sporty Street Machine. For a wild Kustom I think they are to small, and the lines are not perfect for that mostly.
    Have a good nite.....

Remember clothes make the man, wheels and tires make a car (at least from the outside.

Here's mine 57 (the pictures are bad, and the tires in front, too! THese were the only ones that were laying around at the moment)and '55 Nomad. I hate 'em!
