Does anyone even grow tobacco anymore? I rarely see any in Lancaster county, Pa. and there used to be a lot.
It used to be every where in MD. The govt. paid them off to stop growing it. The Amish still raise some here and a few farms that didn’t take the cash. MD had some of the best and most of it was sold over seas and used in high end cigars. Looks like they went from just under 6,000 acres in 2001 to 400 acres last year. Our cash crop now is town houses and mini malls.
The gov't used to control the minimum price here at auction. Now they pay not to grow. The tax on tobacco products is still a big cash cow to Gov't.
I have a 1956 Terratrack 556 crawler with self leveling bucket loader. Need a continental F162 engine for it though. I also have a 1977 Case 480c backhoe diesel.
Friday was "Drive Your Tractor to School Day" at our local high school (where I attended 50 yrs ago). I made a drive thru of the lot, but only one vintage one.
The Amish still grow tobacco in Lancaster county, all the big farmers grow all the tobacco here in Missouri anymore.
The Tuckahoe Steam and Gas show is next weekend. If your not too far it’s worth the trip. It’s in Easton MD, not far from the bridge. @noboD , I hope to get to the Rough and Tumble show in August.
This was my hobby for years. I bought, collected, and restored Ford tractors with 6 cylinders and flathead V8's. A company called Funk Aircraft made kits to install bigger motors in early Ford tractors.
The Ferguson is back and running after 10 years of sittin outside, the moss is washed away some repainting here and there, all wiring replaced new clutch and some seals. Perfect cruiser these hot summerdays here at the country
