Who has a STRAIGHT 6 in your HotRod? Come On, stand up!

  1. I watched Lynn building that truck...........pretty cool. I see you changed out the "puller" header that looked pretty radical even if not real practical.:) It's good to know where it went and that it's in good hands.:D

I'm guessing the saw blade in the valve cover really helps the car "cut" through traffic, eh?
    =)
Nice to know this thread lives on.
Some really great pics. Thanks to everyone for sharing.

    ...keep 'em coming! :)

I have a factory 261 straight-6 in my '59 Pontiac... but it would be a stretch to say I was 'running' a straight-6 in my 'hot rod.'

I ran a 292 Chevy in my 65 pick up through a set of hedman hedders, 2 tubes into one 3" flowmaster and dumped in front of the rear wheel. I really like the sound it made. Most thought it was a V8 (the uninitiated). Definitely not traditional old school sound, but very cool in my mind. Try it, you may like it.

i am running a 215 straight 6 in my car. it has 2 1 bbl holleys and a offy intake, fenton split exhaust manifold. it has a 3 on the tree and overdrive. it gets 24 mpg on the highway. i think it runs pretty good.

    Mink,

    It should work fine.
What you'll most likely end up with is a smooth, deep, mellow rumble.
    Kinda like a Flathead Ford.
My Dad had a 250 in his '74 C-10 and one day the muffler rotted out.
One of the local parts stores used to have a metal garbage can out in the middle of their floor, filled with 4 foot long, generic, "Cherry Bomb" type mufflers.
    They were $10 a piece.
Dad got one and we modified the the exhaust pipe and clamped the Cherry Bomb in.
Dad noticed a little extra power, when climbing hills loaded and he may have picked a little extra gas milage, but the most noticible thing about the change was the sound.
Not "rappy" and DEFINATELY not the "raspberry" that you get from a lot of sixes running stock setups.
Since the Flow Master basically works like a cross between a regular muffler and a Cherry Bomb, the result should be very similar.
For best results, use a full-length exhaust system (doesn't mean you have to, however).

    Twisted6,

    LOL!
MPG? She gets 20 gallons to the mile! ;)
Actually, as much as I'd like to say she's mine, she isn't. Just something I ran across surfing the web.
I believe the website I got that pic from is a sort of blog-with-pics, about the owner's exploits with that rail.
Here's the link, if you wanna check it out - http://www.myrideisme.com/Blog/vintage-front-engine-dragster-with-a-six/

I take it that the car seen in your avatar.
    Nice looking ride.
You don't hear of too many people running that engine.
How's it to live with? Pretty trouble free?
I bet parts aren't exactly easy to find for that engine.....or are they?

Anyway, extra bonus point for living outside-the-box.
Thanks for sharing your ride with us.
