360: Essentially a 390 with a 352 crank. Used in 1958 and 59 Edsels (labeled as a 361 (or E-400) and not to be confused with the later 361 FT) and later 1968 to 1976 pickups. Despite having the same displacement, the Edsel and pickup 360's had completely different characters. The pickup version was a poor breathing low compression hog rated at 215 hp, where as the Edsel motor was a 10.5:1 or 9.6:1 (depending on year) compression, had good breathing heads, and a 4 barrel.

    410: Essentially a 390 with a 428 crank. Used in 1966 and 1967 Mercury's ONLY. 10:5:1 Compression.330 Hp, 444 ft-lbs torque.

Nope, Sorry the 430 was always an MEL, including all 430's used in Thunderbirds. You might be thinking of the 410 MEL used in 1958 Edsels, labeled an E-475, and a step up from the E-400 (361 FE). The 410 MEL often gets confused with the 410 FE used by Mercury.

I don't have any pictures of my 390 I'm going to put in my altered wheelbase Falcon but I hope to get started building it shortly. They really make a killer looking motor, some great looking motors on here. Thanks for sharing.

LOL just another brainwashed klown that only knows how to tick off Chebbie doo-dads on Summit's website

    Lesse, right now, 10 427's, one regular 428, 3 CJs and an SCJ, 6 390's, a 352, and a 391HD- probably forgetting a couple.

    Evil Twin, original 406 car with a 427-8V, C6 w/ 4000 converter and 5.14's- jumps pretty good

Croozer Twin has it's original 390-4V, for now ;)

I have 427 engine parts in these three- ex Fireball Roberts, Dan Gurney, and Curtis Turner

here my "ELLI" Edsel`s fake E-400 361 CID Ford-Edsel engine.

Only valve covers & aircleaner are original parts.
Heads, valvetrain, oil pan, carb, & intake are from 1962,
short block from 1969 .. Edelbrock Performer Plus + cam + lifter + timing kit.

Perfoms quite well with 3 spd man + overdrive trans & 3.70:1 gears!

    BTW
Did you know, 1958 Edsels were first Ford-Edsel powered cars for sale in public, in sept 7. 1957!

Just gave my 352 powered '66 pickup to my youngest son. Wish I still had my '62 406 from my college days.

  16. Sorry if this is a hijack, but seeing as we're on the subject of FE's, maybe some of you can give me a definitive answer on this one, since I'm not a Ford guy. I have a pair of Thorley fenderwell headers, and from the looks of them, they look like FE flanges, but the ports are oval instead of square. Someone told me that some FE headers were made with oval ports, that they sealed better or something. Anyone know anything about this?

This is a standard 61 390 in a 32 glass coupe at my friend's shop. Would be plenty of power just the way it sits.

My father has a 390 powered non-hamb friendly '68 mustang that is very impressive- and yes, it has an aluminum intake, adjustable roller rockers, and all the performance you could possibly want in any car. I would not hesitate to use one if I had one- but they are fairly uncommon, around here at least.

Deuces, thanks, but thats what I do. It says "missing security token".I reported it. I'll try tomorrow evening.

  27. Here is the 390 going in my 1959 Edsel Wagon, and I am having the 390 from my 1962 Bulletbird built.
Careful, keep FE locked up. They breed!

Ignore the ignorant. There are always nay sayers Here on the HAMB.

I guess that is what the Hokey Ass part of the Message Board is all about.

The Ford FE engines are about 75 to 100 lbs lighter that Chrysler Hemi engines and few people bash them.

Stock FE engines are Big torque engines and work fine.

I like Big torque engines. They have a quality of their own.

    Dick :) :) :)
