I don't have a boat so why do I need an anchor? Seriously if they didn't have that heavy intake,non-adjustable rocker arms and crappy exhaust manifolds they might make a good tractor engine. We use a 25 foot chain because the water is real shallow here.

I've got 3 FEs, a couple evan have aluminum intakes, adjustable rockers, and headers. My boat already has an anchor, I use an sbc for that.

Heres two of my four. First is just a nice detailed stock appearance, then with performance manifolds and air cleaner change. Last shot is the tri-powered 390 in my 64.

Dude! Why are you hating the FE's? Let me guess, you must run a small block Chevy. Not to be a dick, but I wouldn't call Shelby GT500s, AC Cobras, Thunderbolts, Daytona coupes, GT-40s, 427 SOHCs, or NASCAR Galaxies "boat anchors" or "tractor engines." Here's a picture of my 360. I just picked it up today, planning on puting it in my '29. It was $70 at my local Tear A Part. The other picture is a couple of FE as installed by Ed Roth.

361cu in 1958 Edsel Ranger....have original "E400" valve covers, too. They advertised the torque not the displacement. I believe og HP was 303.

I am running a '63 390 FE with edelbrock 600 cfm carb and edelbrock performer390 alunimum intake along with headers in my '59 F100 Custom Cab. It is my first experience with them and will be pulling it to rering it and put in new bearings in the spring. It had been sitting for 15 years and needs a bit of freshening up.

    Boat anchor???

My "boat anchor" 390 has a pair of Carter AFB carbs (genuine, not clones) sitting in my F-100 Ranger shop truck. 22 MPG at 70 MPH on gasoline. Less than that figure in town. :D

Oh, and if you need a boat, call me. ;)

    Jon.

I dont own one, But there used to be a Bad ass '28-'29 Roadster that ran around town with a THUNDERBIRD 390 in it ...

I know where it sits now, Under a tree full of Leaves & they WILL NOT sell it !!!!

I just picked up an EDELBROCK X-F66 2x4 Cross Ram for an FE that was in a '56 Ford with a Built 352.

My Grand Father set a Stock Body Track Receord at Freemont in 1961 in his Dealership Owned 1961 Starliner with a 3x2 390 & 3spd, He was a Car Salsman & this was the car the Dealership let him drive Home !

Any Nay Sayers to the FE must be S/B Chevy Lovers, Afraid to use anything but the JellyBean.

I have a couple of 360's around here - one on the shop floor. The other powers my '52 F6 plow truck. Both stock.

I guess boat anchors are producing more horse power now than they were back when you still had a mind. Kuntz has just dynoed a FE with well over 1000 (yep that's three zeros) horsepower. And FE powered Thunderbolts are now in the 8's in SS.

My 1965 Ford 352 original 4bbl engine. Now has a little bigger cam, intake, flattops, and a carb. Very nice engine.

  24. Don't know where he is, but HAMB member Movin/On has a buttload of FE's.
Last I heard, he was on vacation in Denver, he hangs out sometimes at the PNW HAMB forum

Been runnin FEs in my chopped F-1 for about 40 years. Puttin the third one in soon, got over 500,000 miles from the first two. Factory tri-power, balanced, bluprinted, polished CJ rods, headers, can get 22 MPG if I try. Still runs low 13s.....So bite me!

My father has a 427 Tunnel port in a 67 Mustang GT, Runs good to say the least. ( I know, not exactly HAMB friendly) There's a pic on my computer at home, I'll try and find it later.

  27. Your joking right? Ford won Le Mans four years straight with the FE, and they had to change the rules to keep the FE from winning it a few more times. What other American engine has done that? You really need to check your facts before you make silly statements. You are speaking of the garden variety 352-390s with the non-adjustable valves, etc. That's like judging all small block chevys by the 305 and 307. Just a really dumb thing to say.

Seriously, spend a few weeks reading the Hamb, and you'll discover that shit like manifolds and rockers can actually be swapped out to improve performance. It is called Hot Rodding.

Here's mine, haven't run it yet, but I already have an aluminum intake and headers for it.

This is the 352 that sits in my 59 wagon. I have a 390 in my 64 Galaxie and there's a 390 in my girlfriends 62 Thunderbird.

I've posted this one before, but here is one of mine. It was destined to go into my 27 tudor, but may rethink that one, not much room in a T engine compartment. I also have another tri-power intake and air bonnet that may be up for sale as soon as I decide on a price.
