Just wondering who some of you guys use for chrome work. Man this stuff is expensive! I had a friend of mine take my speaker grill into a shop near him and they want $90 to chrome it. I was hoping to find somewhere for about $50 and still have it nice. I have one for a 49 Ford I want done and an F1 truck.
I used the BumperShop in LA on the recomendation of another HAMBer.. Nice work, they pick up and deliver. I did have 1 problem... They quoted me a price, when I called back the price was higher. The owner met me half way... - Joe
EPA chemical handling costs have driven chrome prices sky-high. I highly recommend Advanced Plating in Nashville, TN. They do great work at a reasonable price and are very experienced at "long distance via UPS" work. I have no qualms about sending my stuff to them. www.advancedplating.com You might also do a search on the HAMB and/or ask "Polisher" via a PM.
I've seen some of the stuff the Librandi's (Near Harrisburg,PA) has done, which looked good-but I am not an expert. If you are going to Carlsile or hershey, there are quite a few shops with displays there to talk to. I expect the better shops will be higher on price and longer to turn around.
Just north of my hometown there is a chrome shop called Custom Plating Specialists, I worked there for a while. They do fantastic work, although it isn't cheap. If anyone wants their number, PM me. These guys are great at fixing pot metal, even the really pitted up shit that a lot of places won't touch.
Good or great chrome work is NOT cheap or inexpensive. Remember, you WILL get what you pay for. I have learned the hard way over the years and now I will ONLY use ADVANCED PLATING in Nashville. 800-588-6686. Tell Steve Tracy you are a HAMB member. He will give you a discount.
I've had very good work done by Custom Metal Finishing, in Indiana, 866-489-4089. They do everything but bumpers. I used Tri-City in Tennessee for my bumpers, they have a web page.
I just used Atlas Plating in Houston. They did a very good job, fairly quickly and called about any problems whatsoever before going forward. They are a small shop, not cheap, but small and friendly.
I had some parts done by Paul's near Pittsburg PA. ,they were pitted pot metal, really bad, come back better then new.
Chrome prices have gone crazy. We just had a set of Tbird bumpers, guards, and bullets done, and it cost 1600 bucks. The EPA is hammering them, and they are passing the savings on to you.
www.paulschrome.com We have run about $40,000 worth of chrome through them in the last 2 years. No complaints here.
