Just about to push the botton on an AD truck and will probably fit a SBC and Auto. What diff should I hunt up?
    Thanks
    Pete

  2. Down under? Start with whatever one is in the vehicle the engine and trans come from.

  3. '80s Trans Am is the correct width, that would mean that the camaro would also fit.

You will have to move the spring pads.

That is what I am running, 74 Camaro. Bought mount kit from Posies Hot Rods...

  5. Shadams,
Thanks I know for sure that the metric rear is a shoe in I wasn't aware that the earlier models would fit as well.

I ran a 90 town car 8.8. Filled the fenderwells nicely. I now have a 95 Tbird IRS....Killer ride and handling. I have also installed a 95 Impala SS rear in a 51, had disc brakes and all gear ratios available. Fit very well.

  7. I'm running an explorer 8.8 its got disc and 3.73. Its a hair narrow at 59.5" but it my 5' standard offset steelies still fit with with 6.70-15s. I would look for 61-62" Camaros and firebirds like said and I think some novas had a good width too. The s10 zr2 axle is a popular swap also.

Thanks guys, great info. Im filling a 40ft container over the coming weeks so freight isnt the issue. Any good wrecking yards close to Paramount in Cali?

Hey mate, hope all is well. When you say metric, what years do you mean?

I picked up a '79 trans am 3.42 posi in great shape for $250. The width works ok on 15x7 wheels with even backset...not sure on tire size/width but they're 28" tall and clear the inside of the bed.

In the US 4x4 S10 rear ends are quite plentifull and cheap. G80 code were the limited slip, you can find them in a variety of gear ratios. Width is close to 60 in. Most Olds Bravadas I've seen at yards have the G80 code with disk brakes.

    GU2 2:73 ratio
    GU4 3:08 ratio
    GU5 3:23 ratio
    GU6 3:42 ratio
    GT4 3:73 ratio
    GT5 4:10 ratio

We threw a late 70's/ 80's K5 into one, to keep the 6 lug set up. We put on new spring perches and it fits well. Are you going 5 or 6 lug, or does it matter to you?

This has my vote also.Put a 99 S-10 4X4 Blazer in my grandons 38 chevy truck using a 51 AD frame. Just moved the spring pad's and had disc drakes also.
