I'm trying to make a copy of this home made wheel puller for my American Austin. I need to find a nut with 2-3/16 inside diameter and 16 thread per inch. Any ideas on where to find one? thanks
Try looking thru this http://www.qbrand.com/hdcatalog/32a - Axle Nut Catalog.pdf They are for trailer axles, tractor trailer that is
The car has disk wheels. The tool screws on in place of the hubcap and the center bolt pushes on the axel to loosen the wheel.
Nuts are specified by the major diameter of the thread. Not inside diameter. Any knowledgeable machinist, can make one on a lathe.
Yes ,measure the thread Od on the hub and try again. Or make one on a lathe. You DO have a lathe don't you? LOL
Check page 4. There is a 2 1/4 - 16 that is probably the size you need. Find a local truck or trailer repair and they might have it.
Those thin nuts will make a lousy puller. They'll bend and deform and, maybe, ruin the wheel. I wish I were a better machinist. I have a lathe with thread cutting capabilities, but have never taught myself to use it. And I'm close to you, to boot.
Most of the trailer spindle nuts are also available as a thick locking single nut now, instead of the two thin nuts. Those would be strong enough to base a puller on. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
I have owned and maintained Harleys from three different decades. I recall Harley does use 2 1/4" nuts on their transmissions/clutches. They even have pullers for 2 1/4" nuts. Check this part number 910-968 at www.JPCYCLES.COM. to get to the Specialty Tool section. JP Cycles sells JIM'S Specialty tools. He sells pullers for 2 1/4" nuts. May be worth a shot. Don't know about the threads. Also may be right-hand thread or left-hand thread. The newer 6-speed transmission use a 2 1/4" nut.
