Hot Rods When did pie crust slicks start going out of favor?

Dang ! All this talk about pie crust made hungry so I just had a piece homemade apple pie for breakfast.
I bought my first set of M&H slicks for 57 Nomad C/MP in early 67. The pie crust cheater slicks worked fine when it was a stock eliminator 283 2x 4 barrel car. That 331 4 speed just over powered the pie crusts.
