Heres a few questions in regards to Wheel Spacers on the Front Drums..

    any Help would be appreciated.

I guess the first thing is,, I bought a set of G78 14 Wide whites on Rims.. the issue I encountered is the inside of the tire is rubbing on the Tie rod, the Drum has the holes for the wheel Bolts instead of Studs.. Can I put eg: 1/4 or 3/8 spacer on the Drum spindle and be safe? also.. how much distance should there be between the tire and Tie Rod?
    Thanks.

I know the car came with 15" tires..

  2. ok...since you know the car came with 15" narrow and taller tires....when you go to smaller 14" and wider tires....your going to rub....

how bout' some 14" chrome reverse wheels...or?

Hi.. great suggestion.. The 205 75r 15s are the same height as the g 78 14s.. but the 15" rim is a 5 Wide.. I do know the 14" are a tad wider with the 6" rim.. would a Not so offset wheel help? or am I just wasting my time trying to do this?

Im sure others have tried.. it would be good to know what I am up against without wasting a whole lot of money..

The HAMB knows alot.. your help would be Nice.. Thanks..

Back in the early 70's we ran 1/4 or 3/8 spacers on disk brake cars with our drum brake wheels all the time to clear the calipers and not have to buy new rims.

I'm a little shy of doing it with the lug bolts rather than studs and nuts though.

Per Mr48chev's comment, I too would recommend replacing the wheel bolts with wheel studs. That is something I have done several times on older Mopars.

In another thread sometime ago, I posted the Dorman Products studs part number that I have used. I remove the drum/hub from the car, drill out the threads...press in (NOT hammer) the new studs and reinstall the drum/hubs.

When pressing in the studs, it is important that the hub be supported at the stud hole, a short piece of pipe or a long socket will work fine, but do not just lay the drum/hub on the press frame. That can distort the drum.

I will see if I can find the stud part number and the drill size I use and post tomorrow.
