I am working on improving the stance on my 1963 Impala. I am going for the factory lightweight look. Currently i have the factory 14's mounted but i was thinking about going with a wider stance in the back, but i am open to ideas. Any thoughts? Thanks

Aside from exactly what you have, i'd lean towards chrome reverse.
There have been a few Z11 car's campaigned that ran them and i always thought they looked right for the era.
I also love the original E/T or American 5 spoke straight style wheels, but even though they were out in the early 60's, i personally think the chrome reverse fit better....and honestly think the plain jane white steelies with or without caps are perfect!!!

    BTW, VERY NICE looking 63!

Here is what I did on my '63 Biscayne project...
8" reverse (14") on back, and 6" reverse (14") on front. They were true old chrome reverse with a bit of surface rust on them, but I wanted paint, so sanded down and painted......I like it a lot better...also running bias tires...

Didn't the station wagons or something have a wider rim that was the hot swap back in the day?

Not so much the factory lightweight look but its hard to beat Astro Supremes on an early 60s Chevy. Especially a white one.

I think it might have those already. The pic almost looks like they are deep dish.

They were called "station wagon wheels" around here in the 60s, but I though someone here on hamb said they are also called "409 wheels" ?

Believe it or not, the 5" rims actually have a deeper look to them vs the 6". The outer ring is flat where the 6's have a step in them for lack of a better word.
The 6" were used on station wagons, and also 409 cars if i am not mistaken.
    I know, useless information..I'm a wealth of it so i'm told. :D

i'd go with the 14x6 steels and a set of the hurst cheater slicks... and no caps. but what you have is killer too.

Can you show some close up's of the 14 inch Caslers, on a car thanx

  15. yea an inch wider than stock if I recall.

Oh and to the OP you are pretty much stuck with 5 on 4 3/4.

Chrome reverse are doable, as well as Magnesium Americans or Halibrands, or Romeos.

He needs to do something with those wheels........plain black wheels with black wall tires look terrible on that car.

Black wheels and all black tires make it look like it has HUGE tires in that picture. Theres no line defining where the wheel and tire meet. I just dont like that look or white wheels with a WWW that dont have a thin strip of black around the bead.

I hear ya. Truth be told i'd like it more with body colored wheels and nice new silver lug nuts. Thats exactly what i'll be doing with my maroon 63 when i do it, but i will probably run thin white walls too..

Back on topic, i still think the original poster's 63 looks perfect with the white wheels and small caps..
    Just leave it :)

That tire would look good wrapped around one of these...
