Just tell people, "It'll shine, when it shines" and walk away. That's what I do... you can glance back and see them thinking way too much into what you just said too. Kinda fun.
2004 Silverado K2500 LT Crew Cab. 299,xxx miles. Duramax/Allison. I haul two pulling tractors on a gooseneck (32k gvw), the enclosed trailer, an open trailer and once in foolish moment enter a pulling contest(always in the money). Ran it down the track a few times (low 14's). I also plow snow as a business with a 10' plow. Not easy on fuel, but it really gets the job done. I plan to put on another 150-200k, then keep it as a full time plow truck. Might even do it up for the track.
Actually a stock engine is the best for towing and that is pretty much what I have in it right now besides dual carbs on top of single port heads. They dont go fast but you will make it to the top of the hill eventually. The going is no problem for me it is the stopping. Bringing 5000lbs to a stop on drum brakes requires planning ahead. I dont mean to bring my VW bullshit in here but seeing as we are talking about truck I have to share this too.
Mine's an 08 GMC Dually Duramax/Allison. Bought it new, hail damaged. Hood and roof beat all to hell, but for over 15 grand off sticker, I don't even notice it. Didn't have to worry about getting the first scratch on it either. Haven't pulled more than 10,000 pnds with it, but you couldn't really tell you had anything behind it then. Bob
This is mine, also my daily driver, long trip road warrior, trailer hauler, and just a hoot to drive, almost 400,000 kilometer, money pit.I've had it 9 years now and it's the most reliable vehicle I have every owned.I know it's not HAMB friendly but someone asked about work trucks!
Lowered 79 Chev shortbox fleetside. Had it since 94. Great on gas empty, not great on gas towing, but will tow anything. Louvered hood, carbuerated 350 with 350 turbo. I love my truck. I am building a 49 chev stepside shortbox on an S-10 for parts hauling. Using the stock V-6 overdrive. It will be cheaper for the runs to the farm for parts. I will still keep the 79 for hauling cars though. Pat.
My 71 Dodge D200. Not easy on the eyes so much but it'll pull down a house... Top speed of 60mph on the highway
This is my work truck. I'm driving it, even though the doors are not finished yet (soon) but down here they are not really needed. But its a nice puddle jumper, and was built with what I had or could find for CHEEP. Ice man
I have a 75 Chevy C20. I found it out back and stuck a battery in it and drove it off. It has a good 350 in it that starts with the push of the button in the coldest of colds. It has had some extra leafs thrown under it and a wooden flatbed. I get around 2 mpg in it for some reason. I made 6 trips to shop this week (bout 3 miles) and it took a whole tank! It needs like some major body work that will never get done. Here are some vids of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYI7As0QLkU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BazXebkMKA4
Well, this has been my 'work' truck since i drove it off the lot.. '02 GMC 2500 HD. It's more of a toy than a work truck honestly, i love the damn thing..first new vehicle for me ( and probably the only) so it'll be around for a long time.. And the 52 will be my new work truck, daily beater. I've actually been building it to take the place of the HD. I'd rather work the 52 than the HD simply because to replace the GMC cost's WAY too much money now days......i'll just keep rebuilding the 52 when it get's tired instead..and still have the other one when i need more muscle
I drove mine, work in progress, without doors for a half a year. There are days I imagine I never took it beyond that point. It was pure fun to toole around town like that
71 GMC 3/4 ton (yep with a Chev grill) 350/350 in it. It makes the 25 mile each way trip every day to work and will haul anything I need to haul or tow. Here it is on a working vacation pulling the boat.
Current ride is a Ford 350 dualie just like this one. But now I have air, electric windows, heated and movable mirrors, power stearing, and an AM/FM/ cd, player. And the heater works.... ZOOOM
My 03 1.2 w 5.3. Bed loaded down with 900lbs of shit as well as the car being loaded with everything under the sun. Towed home from Florida at 90mph in 105 degree heat. Couldn't ask for a better, more reliable truck. Other than tires and a set of front shocks its never had a damn thing go bad. 85k and still havent had to put brakes on it yet
I just inherited a '70 F-100 Ranger from my father-in-law. Currently has an old tired 460/C6 combo. Replacing it with an EFI 5.0 and AOD out of a '91 Mustang. Going for fuel economy and reliability.
Big Red is my '92 GMC Dually 468/4L80. The Black one is my '66 Ford shop truck Boss 351/C6. It's one or the other, both fun to drive. Kevin Ooltewah Speed Shop
Here is mine hauling a bed load of toys I collected for the local 'Toys for Tots' at Christmas time. My goal was to fill the bed.
2004 Dodge Dakota. It has green pinstripes on the hood and tailgate, the logo is hand painted with 1 shot.
Mine is a Suburban, an '89/'86/'77 - the grille, chassis and body shell are '89, the hood, fenders, doors, lower quarters, front seat and the rear body brace and latch panel are from an '86 and the rear doors are off a '77. 350 TBI always starts, have towed anything I ever needed to and beat the hell out of it since I got it cheap at an auction with 57K on the odometer. Ex school bus so maybe that was original. About 90% of the problems I've had were just due to rust, which is why the fenders, doors and quarters got replaced. And also why I don't have a cooler work truck - no sense ruining something nice in the salt. It was so rotty when I got it that I discovered the only thing holding the tailgate on was the rear window being rolled up. The hinges were completely loose. I did pick up an '85 with a better body and a 6.2L diesel, but I never have gotten around to the trans swap it needs. Maybe this summer.
whats that engine you got in that rig? is it a ford 2.3 with a EFI intake fliped upside down? just a guess
Here's my work truck: 93 Dodge W250, Cummin's 5.9L, A518, D60 front, D70 rear, NP 205 transfer case, 205,000 mi. She gets around 20 - 21 mpg on the hi-way while towing. I also have a 53 F250, which I hope to make into a Bonneville push truck.
