Chuck Berry "You Can't Catch Me"

I bought a brand new airmobile
    It was custom made
    It was a Flight DeVille
    With an powerful motor
    And some hideaway wings
Push in on the button and you can hear her sing
    Now you can't catch me
No, baby, you can't catch me
'Cause if you get too close
You know I'm gone like a cool breeze

New Jersey Turnpike in the wee wee hours
I was rolling slowly 'cause of drizzlin' showers
Up come a flattop he was movin' up with me
    Then come wavin' goodbye
In a little old souped up mini
I put my foot in my tank and I begin to roll
Moanin' sirens, for the state patrol
So I let out my wings and then I blew my horn
Bye-bye New Jersey I become airborne

    Now you can't catch me
No, baby you can't catch me
'Cause if you get too close
You know I'm gone like a cool breeze

Flyin' with my baby last Saturday night
Wasn't a gray cloud floatin' in sight
Big full moon shinin' up above
Cuddle up honey be my love
Sweetest little thing that I ever seen
    I'm gonna name you Mabelline
Flyin' on the beam set on flight control
Radio tuned to rock 'n' roll
    Two, three hours a-passin' by
    Altitude dropped to 505
    Fuel consumption way too fast
Let's get on home before we run out of gas

    Now you can't catch me
No baby, you can't catch me
'Cause if you get too close
You know I'm gone like a cool breeze.

Chuck Berry "No Particular Place To Go"

    Ridin' along in my automobile
My baby beside me at the wheel
I stole a kiss at the turn of a mile
    My curiosity runnin' wild

    Cruisin' and playin' the radio
With no particular place to go.

    Ridin' along in my automobile
I'm anxious to tell her the way I feel,
So I told her softly and sincere,
And she leaned and whispered in my ear
    Cuddlin' more and drivin' slow,
With no particular place to go.

    No particular place to go,
So we parked way out on the Kokomo
The night was young and the moon was bold
So we both decided to take a stroll
Can you imagine the way I felt?
I couldn't unfasten her safety belt!

    Ridin' along in my calaboose
Still tryin' to get her belt aloose
All the way home I held a grudge,
    For the safety belt that
    wouldn't budge
    Cruisin' and playin' the radio
With no particular place to go.

there's a shitload more too...it'd be pretty neat to see some HAMB cd's get printed...have like "cruisin' classics" "dragstrip derelicts" "psychobilly psychosis" "rockabilly ramblin" and so on, do a ton of compilation cd's and get them all printed out and sell em here and at swap meets and shit...that'd be a killer way to get some garage and cruisin music from bands that some of us have never heard before...

How about "Manic Mechanic" from ZZ Top's "Deguello" album? Fuckin' badass
song. Hard to beat. What made me tnink of this. Yesterday at the Rockabilly Rod Reunion in Las Vegas, I was talking to a HAMB'er from Canada about a tattoo he's getting today. He mentioned that he ran in to Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top at a casino on the Strip Friday night. He approached him and asked to be photographed with him. Billy was totally friendly as usual and welcomed the photo op and a conversation. It's awesome that someone like Mr. Gibbons still appreciates his fans!

    You're kiddin, right?

Still got the LP I bought when I was a teenager, and so was Mick, I think.
Got it on a CD too, but in it's own way I think it sounds mo-betta on the scratchy vinyl.
But it's a Chuck Berry song the Stones covered.
Most of their early stuff was covers of R & B songs.

The Stone's covered "Route 66" too, as did just about everyone.
I heard it was written for Nat King Cole in the late 40's, don't know if that's true or rumor though.
I have Route 66 by the Stones on Vinyl and by Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters on a 78 RPM single (Bakelite?)

    Keepin it real.

I still got my lp too, I have all of the stones early lps got em as soon as they'd come out. Seems like all my friends were into the Beatles, but I was a stones fan. I knew that if Mick was with a girl he wasn't thinkin' "I wanna hold your hand" ;)I know they were mostly doing someone elses stuff, but I still dug the way they did it, and always dug R&B. I haven't played them in a while, but when I was a teen I played them till the needle smoked! Drove my Dad nuts, even with the bedroom door closed! I came across that little record player in my parents basement a while back, hard to believe it made enough noise to drive old dad up the wall. Maybe I'll get a new needle and fire it up!

  22. "chopped down, hopped up" by the PsychoDevilles. just got my copy in the mail the other day. its a great cd and the lead singers a gearhead! been featured in ol' skool rodz too. go PsychoDevilles. com and get a copy! I know its a shameless plug for the band, but how can you not love a band with a song called "Flames" that mentions" VonDutch,Watson, and "Big Daddy" too!" in its lyrics!
