Looking over my latest purchase here, the dash and part of the cowl / firewall from a 37 Chevy sedan, I'm wondering what the oval hole is above where the gauge cluster would go. What was mounted there?
If there is one on the other passenger side I would say they are both defroster duct locations or even if not. Maybe a stripper model came with drivers side only?
Like others have said defroster duct but it is covered up by the window garnish moulding with a louver to direct the air to the windshield.
I'm only going by my 39 which as far as I can remember looked just like that except the gauge bezel hole is different.
Well it is for a defroster , but not from under the dash . This actually had a stand up tube that faced the glass. I sold a 44000 mile original last fall that had all the options
I was going for the smart ass answer but it is Christmas so I will say defrost vent And a good nite to all! Don at the key board drinking Millers and listening to Classic Rock.
My 38 Chevy has the same "slots" on both sides, there is a cast (if I remember correctly) piece that attaches under the dash (the two screw holes adjacent to the slot) with flex tubes to the heater/defroster. The windshield bezel has "vents" right above the slot to direct the air to the windshield.
Here is the short duct that should accompany the holes in the dash. T his is my friend's 1937 Chevy sedan. I believe it was a dealer accessory item.
31Dodger nailed it. There was only a Driver's side defroster vent in '37. One for the passenger's side didn't appear until 1938.
Thanks. I was guessing defroster, but 31Dodger's picture is great. I do like the other suggestions, though. A liquorice dispenser would be a handy thing to have.
