Say no to protractors. Protractors are great for finding angles. Matching angles. Setting up components. Great rake is the happy by product of the "eye".
Here is mine. Maybe not perfect for all, but perfect for me 3 1/2" dropped axle, 26" front tire, 30" rear
Its a catch because you need to set a bunch or crap up before you can get the eye happy. Think about all the other stuff that needs to be happy. All that stuff needs to work with the rake
You're right, of course. My point is just, final rake is something that you set up by eye and then build the suspension accordingly. Mock it up at it's ideal, and then have at it with protractors and other measuring devices to make that happen.
Here is my formula, derived from looking the "eye" in the eye and working back from there: Measuring perpendicularly up from the flat, middle bit of the bottom of the frame rail, the tops of all the tyres should be around the mean of the front tyre height and the rim diameter. The greater the big-to-little ratio, the steeper the rake. Equal tyre diameters mean a level stance. This isn't the only way for a car to sit, but it will give you that look.
Exactly. The mock-up stage is the most fun part of the build. Your brain and your creativity are running at maximum RPM. Once you get it "right", then you have to open up the wallet, and the fun meter drops back a few notches.
For a Coupe, It'll fit. Since you're building a truck, you can probably get by with this one though...
The forward rake is right at home on 32's be it a high-boy or full fender version, never could get overly enthused of the use of the narrow axle on a full fender car, something needed when going to extremes, just me I suppose...
In my opinion, each car needs its own rake. It is all in the eye! My cars all hve a rake that I like, but none are the same.
Adjustable front spring perch. Coil-over rear. Set the rake you want. Even raise or lower it for car shows or cross country. Never mind the axle drop or the tire size. I like 4 degree.
