What's the part called?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lango, May 10, 2010.

  1. O.K., guys- I'm in need of a part for my truck. It's a junkyard item, but I don't know what to call it. The closest 'yard doesn't want to let you pull it yourself- thus my problem.

Here's the rundown on my ride.
'52 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup. '80 Camaro clip 305 engine with a column shift 350 Turbo.
The part I need joins the shifter rod from the column to the piece that moves the gear selector on the side of the tranny. It pivots in a hole in the frame on one end. The other end fits in the "fork" on the trans.
The one on my truck doesn't have enough throw to manually select first and second gears. I adjusted it this past weekend so I can actually get it in "park" first time, every time. Made a bushing for the column end of the shifter rod to get the slack out of it.
    Anybody know what it's called?
    Thanks.

    Cross shaft...
Heres a pic (Nova.com) you can copy off and take with you. It might be a little different for the exact donor car you need it from...but this picture will get you by.

I know what you mean, I'm not sure if it is a bellcrank or some other name.

You can also do it with an adjustable shift arm on the trans. Not totally inexpensive but it may be the simple solution. Click on the link and scroll clear to the bottom of the page and then back up a bit and there is a Locar shift arm that may suit your needs. The link is for example and that arm should be available through a lot of sources. http://400raptor.com/

Another thing to think about is getting the right one that will work, so you don't end up in the same boat. Those are easy to modify to fit your needs, especially when it's going on a custom application.

You might take a look at the unversal shift linkage that Kugel sells. We've used about 20 of them over the years and they sure do save some fabrication time.
