History What's the most "Over the top" car you ever owned?

I have owned a bunch of cars, mostly all were just street driven vehicles that you could drive anywhere. The wildest thing I think I ever had was a Fairlane with a 427 Tunnel Port 2X4s NASCAR like engine in it. Couldn't drive it on the street. No pics left of it.

But there are a lot of you out there who have had some pretty outlandish modes of transportation.


How about posting up some photos of your wildest rides if you got 'em.

 

My first car was a ‘67 Nova, 283 with 1.94 valve ‘461 heads, an Edelbrock
C-4B/600 Holley with a 2.20 Muncie and 4.56 gears. This was in 1969 when gas was still cheap but I still must have put a million $ through that thing.
I always bought my gas from a nearby station and at Christmas Ostilio, the Guatemalan guy that ran the station, gave me a carton of Camels. I guess he appreciated my business
After the 4.56 experience I always kept my general transportation separate from my hot rods. There’s nothing like a good, economical and reliable DD.

 

The one I have...Blown 392 4 spd 3.73 sure grip...

 

Almost Funny. It's so over the top I haven't driven it for a few years. I guess it needs a new owner.

 

My “over the top” is OT here,,,,,it misses the cut off by 5 years ,,,,,it’s in my information where I signed up though .
I can’t believe I’m still here to talk about it,,,,,LoL,,,,it’s the only car I never bent a body panel on .
I was 23 when I built it,,,,,spent more money than I knew existed at the time,,,,LoL .

The infamous Corvair Street Freak (gasser)

 

Hillborn injected 401 nailhead transplanted from an alcohol funny car. Most acceleration I have ever felt.
The injected 392 hemi in my 51 doesn’t come close in power to the road. The 10.50x15 ripple wall M&H’s were a big factor.

 

Mine was 5 years O.T. but it was cool with a shaker scoop with 429 cu. in.

 

Street hemi powered 1956 Thunderbird Car ran a single holley 3 barrel so it fit under the factory hood scoop. It went in without cutting was a simple swap except for the oil filter

 

My 57 I own now. Just installed a looser torque converter and hotter cam. Should get me somewhere into the 10's.....I hope.

My 41 Chev pickup should be right at a thousand to the crank after stepping up the 540's blower size, more boost and more fuel, but still pump gas friendly. It made 800 with a 6-71 on only 3 lbs boost, traction is the problem with that one.
The Henry J would pull the wheels every pass at the track but felt kinda docile on the street with it's tunnel rammed 383 sbc and 4.57 spooled rear. That one got a hundred and five cubic inch increase and new chassis, everything else stayed the same, so it should be pretty fun when it rolls back out too.
"Over the top" is all relative to what you're used to I reckon.

Can't say I've yet owned a hamb appropriate pavement pounder.
"Over the top" for me would probably be this Buick Roadmaster. Wasn't real pretty, but I had it running good with open exhaust and sitting nice and low in the back. Huge steering wheel. A real trip to drive.

 

[ I still have my biggest Freak Show car, but I wounded the motor summer ‘20, and had to take a break from it. Still on break….

Probably my most "over the top" LOOKING build, was my wife's old Panel Delivery with every possible accessory known to man.



Probably my most "over the top" DRIVING build was this '40 Ford pickup (with '37 pass. sheetmetal). Built 302/C6/3:90 gear 9 inch. It drove like go-cart UNTIL you punched it. Talk about squirrely...the guy I sold it to crashed it twice.

Not over the top by speed or horse power ( although it was fast ) but for luxury features on an “ old car “

My '56 MK II , As long as you're talking street cars. It's still parked in the yard waiting for me to get to it....

 

I guess it would have been my Winged Sprint car. After my unscheduled flight over the third turn fence, and a 5 week stay in the hospital, I decided to hang up what was left of my helmet. I swapped the surviving parts from the wreck to my back-up chassis, slipped in a shortie glide, hung some plexiglass and lights, dug out one of my 'magic' homebuilt titles, and hit the street. It was kinda funny what you could get away with on the street back then as long as the plates matched the title and you didn't do anything too stupid (like driving a winged sprint on the street wasn't stupid enough). But after awhile the wings, raucous exhaust and alcohol fumes just attracted too much attention. One cop made it his life's work to stop me every time he saw me. Asshole even gave me an excessive noise ticket once when the car was parked. I got tired of the hassle and since the weather was changing, I just blew it apart. Used the parts on future builds.

 

Never had a really over the top street car, but I did have a few of these.

my 29 Lakes roadster went 203 with 427 bb on gas.

 

no pix, but it had to be my '59 volvo--the model that looked like a 3/4-size '46 ford!

 

Completely OT for the HAMB, but definitely over the top:

1963 Lotus Super Seven. Only 1340cc English Ford engine, but the car weight right on 1000 lbs and went like stink. Handled like a slot car. Passengers were invariably terrified.

 

Don't look cheap and it certainly isn't dirty!
