Hey guys... I happened on some engines today, and I'd like to know if you guys think they're good deals... Running 425" single 4bbl nailhead $15 (That's how much I put in my friends gas tank to haul the FREE engine home for me! ) Complete, turns over, but needs to be rebuilt 331 Firepower Hemi $400 Mostly complete (missing SOME minor internal parts???), turns over, needs rebuilt 348 truck motor $200 I'm also trying to talk the guy out of the injected 394 olds, but he doesn't think he wants to sell it... What do you guys think? I also got 3 350 4 bolt completes (but one was supposed to be a 400 ) for free A SBC Holley Street Dominator intake (free) A BB Ford Edelbrock intake with a brand spankin Holley 4bbl (Free) And then I found out that the junkyard withh all of the 283's and 327's that I wanted forgot to call me before they crushed ... I could have had them all for scrap price if I pulled them myself, and they forgot to call! All in all not a bad Hot Rod parts day... I'll take it.
Yeah no shit, I'd love to find a cheap and runnin(!!) nail to put in the Byooik while the 401 is on it's to visit the machine shop this winter. You're killin me, and the fact it's a 425 is just another kick in the balls.
Well of course, I dragged the nailhead home. I'm not sure I can afford the 348 or the 331. Are they good enough deals that I should find the money, or is that pretty close to going rate? Lemme know guys! Steve
I agree Rich, but you know me... going fast is WAY more important than looking cool (not that I could EVER look cool, but the car might, you know how it is....). I just don't know that the 331 could get the blood pumpin' the way something else might... (if it were a 426, or even a 392, it'd be closer to what I need!) But is that a good price you think? Also, while I cannot guarantee it, there are rumors of the '34 coming home with in the next week!!! That nailhead might work alright in the '39 Chebby pickup too, dontcha think?
I just ran across a 64 Riv that still has original 425 in it here in Lakeland,Fla. The dude wants 600. for whole car,but engine is stuck.Tryin to talk him outta just the engine! He did let me buy the BUICK aluminum valve covers and chrome aircleaner for 40.bucks! 15 bucks for ANY 425 is a good deal...
Steve, I hooked Frank up with a baby hemi up here in Caro 2 or 3 years ago and I think he paid $300 or $350 for it. It was pretty complete and turned over OK as I recall. Yea I think the nailhead would work and look very cool in the pickup. If Donnie and Frank come down on Saturday I'll tag along.
yeah. come on ladies. what have you paid for these motors??? what have you seen them advertised and/or sell for???? how much would YOU expect to pay for one?? help a brutha out already ...
The Nailhead was a no brainer, so that was easy right The 348 I would pass on. The Hemi is about the going rate IMO. Now some guys in areas that stuff is not so pleantyfull may look at things differently. When it comest to non running and incomplete engines there is alot of stuff out there. Put the Nailhead in the coupe, that would certianly rule. If you don't have the money for the other engines pass them on to someone who might actually want to use them. IF they were worth 3 or 4 times the asking price I would say borrow some cash and then just resell them, but I don't see that. Ok thats my opinion, but you know what they say about opinions
