now don't go all mathematical on me. i know if we're talking miles an inch isn't much and when dealing in mouse holes, it's a big deal.

i mounted my 7.50-16 firestone deluxe champions on a 16x4 inch wide wheel and it all came out ok.

i'm going to reverse these 15x6 inch ford wheels and mount some 15x8.20 firestone dragster cheater slicks on them. all the web stuff calls for a minimum 7 inch wide wheel. think i'll be ok?

    ^^^^^^^very succinctly put!....... :D

When 8:20 tires were standard equipment, no auto manufacturer used wheels wider than 6" or 6.5", if that. Although I am an advocate of appropriately matching wheel width and tire cross sections, I do not see a problem with what you are planning to do.

these wheels just lend themselves so well to reversing too. drill out a dozen rivets, spin the centers around and bolt them in and weld them up. i have friends who want me to have the pieces chromed while they're apart and rivit them back together. we'll have to wait and see what i feel like.

It's only money Rick, plus, a guy once told me that it only costs 10% more to go first class.

That's tempting Rick, however, there seems to be family stuff including grand kids.

  8. I have 8:20 15's street tires on 5x15" steelies (as do quite a few guys) which are reversed and have had no issues. Don't expect any. Tim

If you are going to reverse them you could pick up a couple of junkyard 7" wide rims.

Some Buick wheel shells, with the tapered backs would be cool.

yes and no jack, i'm collecting parts again, this time for a 27 coupe

that's what i was concerned about

  15. You'll get a slight bulge which can be a good thing it the tire hits the curb before your wheel does.

To get maximum tire patch contact you'll need to adjust your tire air pressure. you do that by airing up the tire and making a chalk line across the thread. Now nail it and then look at the chalk line, if it shows in the middle then add a little air and if it shows on the edges let a little out. Do this until, the chalk line wears off evenly.

An inch can be found on your tape measure. usually it's between 2 of the big numbers like 3 and 4. In between are a bunch of little lines some tall and some short. ;) :D:D

Just remember, never ask a woman what 6 inches is :D

  17. Actually I was going to tell what's an inch but I didn't want everyone to laugh at me. :D

It will be fine I mounted Hurst 10" slicks on 7" wheels(Against their recommendation) They work fine and look like they did back then because they weren't running wide wheels like today.
