So I'm buying a slightly off topic 1966 Cadillac Calais 2 Door hardtop. The motor is stuck from sitting but other than that its near perfect and $600 so I'm not passing it up. Anyways, its got a 429 and I would like to know what parts will swap between the early Cad 331-390 and late cad 472-500 motors with the 429? I've been told the 429 is and in between motor and there really isn't a lot of performance parts out there for them. So would like to know whats out there both new and old manufacturer names and parts numbers too please. Anyways thanks for your help! Really I'm looking for finned valve covers and a three duece or dual quad aluminum intake. But show pics of everything. I really want to know parts interchange possibilities too.

  3. One could probably special odrder a cam shaft from one of the old cam grinders like Isky or erson.

Nothing is going to swap from a 472 or 500 maybe the air cleaner or the mufflers.

  4. Rebuild it stock and keep the hood closed. It's not a performance type car anyways.

You can put a log type manifold on it and I think there is a Mallory for sale on "The" auction site. Thats about it

  6. Most performance stuff is geared towards the 425, 472 & 500. I would look around on the Cadillac forums.

Spector performance is big on 500 and bigger Caddy motors, if they would share information is another question.

  8. I would look for a 472 or 500. Had a 67 DeVille with a 429 a few years ago and don't remember any perfromance stuff out there for it.

Alright, performance parts are hard to find, but does anyone know what parts will swap between the earlier caddy mills (331-390) and the 429?

I still have the '67 in my avatar.

Best I know nothing on the 390 family will cross over. The 429 had a 4 year production life and were replaced by the 472/500 which was a different design. Could be worse. The 1963 was a one year only engine. That was called a 390 but most of the parts aren't compatible with '62 and before.

Around 6/7 years ago I emailed the guys at Cadillac Speed Shop in Albuquerque New Mexico about my '67. They said I had the best heads/intake/cam etc. Take care of it and go drive it.

The oil passages for the heads aren't the best design in the 429. I've heard they have a tendency to "gunk up".

Best we can do is button everything up and if the engine goes, find a 500 to drop in there.

Will the 472-500 motors bolt right in? or whats all involved with that swap anyways? My 429 is not in the greatest shape so this might be the way to go unless I can find another 429m
