Drove my avatar Model A to a spot for lunch with a friend. A guy he knew walked up to the car and said something about not being very environmentally conscious, then said it was loud.

I said ‘thanks!’ and drove off.

    It was a beautiful day.

Meanwhile when you take into account all the pollution that's created in the manufacturing of a new car, From a pollution standpoint, it's hardly worth it.

    Hello,

Sometimes it pays off to cruise by our old neighborhood to see what people have done since we moved out 20+ years ago. The houses have changed, as did the friends in the neighborhood. But some of the cars have resurfaced after years of being inside. Once we saw this old 1964-65 Falcon in a different area of So Cal and thought we would see it again, one day.

Then, we happen to see it parked in a different location, in a quiet neighborhood, waiting its turn to get into the garage for some work.

upload_2022-10-3_4-52-44.png Perhaps, we will see it back on the road again, soon.

    Hello,

Sometimes, the salt air and fast flowing moisture from the ocean just does wonders on the metal parts of any car or wagon. A lot of these old Suburbans are too large to fit into tiny one car garages (in old neighborhoods) or even the later two car garages. So, they are obligated to park outside. Well, one too many times can do a number on the parts, starting with the places the salt air/water finds, to start the slow creep down the sides.

When my wife and I were parking close to the ocean, we could see the late afternoon fog come rolling in everyday. Luckily, we were able to park two cars inside of an old garage. But, that did not say we needed to ignore the damaging effects of the everyday rolling salt air/fog/nighttime moisture laying down a nice coat of rust inducing salt water.

We did wash the El Camino weekly and wiped the car surface with a clean cloth as much as we could. But, we knew “rust never sleeps.” The only way a Corvair rear bumper stayed shiny chrome was that it was usually covered with a fine layer of oil from somewhere. HA!

As cool/old as the Suburban is, it still has a daily driver life.

Or, with a wagon full of kids and beach paraphernalia , a lowered version on its way to the ocean/beach.

There is hope yet for a future life…

HIGHWAY PATROL with Broderick Crawford - bad guys driving "a convertible with a unconventional motor" - kept saying that the unique sound was from a supercharger - - who's roadster was this? 20221005_021600.jpg 20221005_021608.jpg 20221005_020141.jpg 20221005_020851.jpg 20221005_020824.jpg 20221005_021957.jpg 20221005_020309.jpg

  19. A few of us drove our old junk to work today and parked in the grass in front of the building. Made it hard to want to work and not just hang out and talk cars all day...

That's Mel's 34. He's in his 70's and has had that 34 since he was 15. Drove it to high school and also drove it to his 50th high school reunion. Back in the late 60's & early 70's it had an Olds 324 bored out to a 350. He would drive it to LA and run it at the drags then drive it back home to Citrus Heights. Home made and hand polished brackets for the 2 SCOT blowers. He put the 394 with the blowers in it in the mid to late 70's. Most hard core hot rodder I've ever met.
