    Hey DP,
Either you are a left handed and hold the phone with the button on the left side or sometimes it is the screen rotation mechanism. The automatic screen rotation takes over and does wonderful things while shooting. That is why small digital cameras all have the button on the right...the photo is always centered and correct...unless you manually turn the digital camera left or right for a vertical shot.

    Hello,

As a follow up to the previous post back in June: I wanted to get a feel of driving this chopped sedan delivery as compared to our stock 40 Ford Sedan Delivery from back in those early days. We had miles of fun driving the 40 Ford all over So Cal.

This chopped early Willys Sedan Delivery was nicely finished, but would create a low down, squashed, feeling. The feeling is not too much different than laying back in one of those high dollar sports cars and looking out of the front window.

Recently, I sat in a high dollar sports car. The road view is different and the feeling was difficult to adjust and feel safe. Although, it is the same road ahead, it just felt weird. I liked the "sit up driving stance" of the sedan delivery every time, if there is a comparison.

But the stance, the color, and finish of this Willys sedan delivery, made this one envious to own. The need to drive it and experience that feeling was definitely there. Plus, it has more room and is cooler to drive than those lay down, high dollar, sports cars.

  11. Stopped at a yard sale today, turned out to be Glenn Whitaker of Whitaker Buick Chevrolet EST. 1912.

These cars were sold new by the dealership he bought them back and some dealer items he saved.

I had to laugh when I saw this. A fellow I worked with told me about he and a friend driving from
Chicago to San Diego in a Nash Metropolitan when they were in the Navy in the late '50s. That
    had to be torture.

Not taken today but I think they're kool enough to post. I saw these two early in the morning in
the middle of a work week. I assumed the owners were out for coffee, a good time to let these cars stretch.

Seen these today. The one before was a Ford truck. I also seen a black 67 impala convertible, light blue nova ll in the st. and a burgandy48 chevy sedan on the freeway keeping with traffic pretty good.

    Hey D&P,
Did you happen to try out the Cherry Ave Drags just up the street near the cemetery? It is still there after all of these years. By the way, that whole corner development where Performance Parts is located was the now gone, Lakewood Drive In corner property back in 1962. It was a sprawling, drive in movie theater complex that was very popular with the local HS crowd.

Driving on Carson Street from actual Lakewood was done many times during our LBCC early college days and cruising days. It was the main feeder road back to Bixby Knolls, our home away from home. Cherry Ave at night was a standard practice...There is a lot of hot rod/cruiser history from that specific area of Long Beach/Signal Hill/Lakewood area.

I drove right in front of that shop last June when I was going home from visiting the Lions Dragstrip Museum set up days.

Here is a little excursion just up the street on the way past that exact spot on Cherry Ave.

  20. It was a chopped 39 Willys Sedan Delivery and I had never seen one before,
That is a nice car, and the collection you saw it in is Awesome...I have not been there, but have seen extensive photos from friends that have been there. There have been other sedans that were made into a sedan delivery, and some nice ones, but Willys never made them...they are all custom made after the fact. Willys did make a panel delivery in the early willys cars, but in a very limited number. Making functional rear door is very difficult. Pictured is a factory panel delivery...and another very nice sedan delivery-custom made. g-willys 1941-willys-sedan-delivery-003.jpg download.jpg 1941-willys-sedan-delivery-003.jpg download.jpg 1941-willys-sedan-delivery-003.jpg download.jpg

    Hey DP,
We called it the "Cherry Ave Drags" because the marked dragstrip (Cherry Avenue from San Antonio to Carson St) was at least 3/4 mile long with a 1/4 mile marked off. There was plenty of room to shut down before the first cross street. It started right in front of the cemetery just south of San Antonio and Cherry. No one ever complained...and no one ever got a ticket for speeding or such, as far as our crowd was concerned. The road is still there, you just have to know where the markings are or were.

Late at night, it is very eerie and super quiet. The wind usually blows east, so the sounds go away from any residential areas. In the daytime, you can see the whole, long 1 mile Cherry Ave. all the way to Carson St. But, in its heyday, no one ever had to go to Carson St. to turn around or make a quick exit.

Man that's cool the only one I can think of like this is in Compton. But they have been stealing cars strong arm style during the races lately and I haven't got shot at since my teens and I'm not looking back lol.. The police let's um race for a while but they crack down. Slow down their buddy haha

I saw this Buick sitting day after day for years. Finally I decided to take a picture before it was gone.
    It's gone.

If the yard has been closed and goods crushed:(, these hoods could still be used on trucks!:)
