Not today but I did see it in a hotel parking lot in a Chicago suburb. It was in the
summertime and it had California plates on it. I couldn't think of a big rod run
in the midwest at the time so it had me wondering.

    FLOOR SHIFT KITS 1959-62
    upload_2018-3-30_6-1-32.png
    Hello,

I was reading an old Drag News from 1959 and came across this ad from Eelco Manufacturing Co. in Inglewood, CA. I knew there was a kit that we installed on our friend’s 55 Chevy when we could not replicate the original shift unit for a column to a floor shift. After many tries, my high school auto shop version, just would not work well, so my friend’s dad somehow got a shift conversion kit and we installed it easily in that 55.

Back in February, I mentioned how hard it was to make and install a column to floor stick shift transmission shift kit. Everything else was as simple as the automatic floor shift kit installation that we did on a 51 Pontiac, but this 55 Chevy was a 3 speed stick shift. This was the kit that we used to make the 55 installation a finished product.

I took all measurements from the Eelco conversion shift kit and had a plan to recreate my own versions of the floor shift kits for extra money in high school. All of the tools were right there in the auto shop and the next door metal shop for full production. As a senior, I had plenty of “open” project time and ideas for some creativity. One more kit and that was the end of this money making automotive adventure. Selling custom ordered parts was a little better with our old drag racing contacts.

    Thanks, Denis…

By the way, we did see a black Buick Skylark (GREAT LOOKING WHEELS) being pulled on a trailer down by Mission Bay. There was too much traffic to get a good shot while going 75. Maybe he was going to the weekend car show there.

    Hello,
Yesterday, was the first sunny day in So Cal in quite some time. It was such poor weather for the Easter/Spring Break for everyone. (poor high school kids on a break...) So, what do old hot rod guys do on a sunny day? As we were driving down Ortega Highway, we saw a 55-56 Ford pick up coming our way in the opposite direction. Then several cars behind that truck, a cool, old, open air/no top, black roadster with two people came whipping by going the other direction. We could not tell if it was a 30-32 roadster, it happened so fast and it was a small object coming at your eyesight.

Being that Ortega Highway is always: "keep your eyes open" kind of a road, the camera was slow to come out. The black roadster zipped by the other direction (going toward the I-5 freeway.) An older guy with grey hair was driving it with a smile on his face. (or, what looked like a smile.) It could have been the wind whipping him around. At any rate, the black roadster looked very cool in the bright sunny day. Even if it was for a quick moment.

Later in the day, after a great lunch at Taco Mesa, we saw an odd color, light blue, Ford truck parked in a shopping center lot. By then, we were zipping by to get back to the beach area before the traffic started getting thick.

So much for Spring sunny weather. Today, we are back to typical, Seattle weather. We look outside and can't tell what time of the day it is... June gloom two months early. Next week, it is supposed to be sunny again. But, San Diego is getting some heavy rain...only an hour south... How crazy it has been in So Cal!

I didn't see this but a friend from Lafayette, Colorado flew down to Phoenix for the
Indy car race this past weekend and sent this pic. I'm not a fan of Indy cars but these
old roadsters are pretty kool, and hey, this was Foyt's ride.

The Buick owner came back to show me the new Edmonds intake and 97 carb set-up he just found. I love this car. 20180112_145339.jpg 20180112_145324.jpg
