IMG_1150.JPG IMG_1149.JPG Based on the spindles, I'm thinking it's a 37-41. Was used for a trailer at some point. The spindles look like the arms are bent back, parallel with the axle. Backing plates seem ok and no pitting to speak of. Is it worth the $100 asking price?

Yes the axle and spindles are ‘37-‘41, backing plates look to be the early style hydraulics that some say make the brake adjustment not as user friendly. The drums are later (was it ‘46-‘48?) that used the hub outside the drum. The drums could very likely be worn or rusted beyond use.
Those later hubs are popular for the Buick aluminum, finned drum conversion. The bent spindles “could” be corrected but like Dirty Harry said - do ya’ feel lucky? If the guy that heated and bent them water quenched them they are junk. The axle itself could be saved by cleaning the welds at the steering arms and spring pads off, hopefully the perch holes are not boogered up with weld.
Hard to say worth for sure, you may only be getting hubs and backing plates.

  3. Sure it's worth a 100 bucks,spindles,backing plates,drums and axle. HRP

You can't buy wheel bearings of quality as good as the ones in those hubs as long as they didn't get wet or run out of grease. Tell him $75 if the bearings are all right, & check 'em right there ....
