I'm drooling over here..... I have a set of rear mount gauges (not that big) that I wanna use but they are shot. I don't think they could be restored.

  2. Hey JJ, what have you been up to? besides driving all over the country?

Is it mine or yours you don't think they can be restored?

Heres another 4 1/2" Speedo a with different needle and MPH rating...I'm surprised to see another one.

This set up is on eBay...weird temp gauge too. The 2 5/8 gauges are dwarfed by that giant speedo. The seller is guessing the speedo is out of a Studebaker but I can't say I agree. If it's stude it must be out of a pretty deluxe model.

I can't understand why the modern gauge manufacturers don't make repops of these style of gauges. They are soo cool.

So the last thing you want to happen when your sailing down the hill with the wind behind you hitting 120 in the snow is ease on the brakes and have the front wheels lock up and no more steering. Hence the front brake cut off/reducing valve.

Very common on older air brake trucks. Now illegal. A lot of road tractors, even in the 70's did not even have front brakes, or had them removed.

  8. They really are a great piece of Americana, hang them on the wall so some one else doesn't trash them.

  9. still looking for a qualified restorer, any thought or recommendations?

So what was the backstory on that firetruck? Just sat in a junkyard? Thought it might be a refugee from a playground except the kids would have smashed the gauges to bits after about five minutes...

See what Morris guage says, ive seen some of his stuff on ebay and they looked very nice.

I have a couple of stewart warner gauge panels with the rear mount gauges and some need some love and some are good, ill probably just built a car that isnt too nice so i dont need to mess with the gauges!

and a pic of the guages and a pic of a studebaker gauge panel too.
