What was your First Car?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by cwayne, Feb 6, 2010.

  1. That was one hell of a good price for a 4 year old car.I paid $1050 for a 66 Fairlane 390XL in 70 and thought it was a pretty fair price.

  2. 58 Chevy 4-door "pink coral" (inside and out) BelAir, 283/PG. Had plastic seat covers on it - when we sold it to get the new 68 Chevelle in 67, we took the covers off and it had new seats! I also learned to do some body work on that car - fixed the over-the headlights brow, left the "V" but removed the Chevy emblem above the "V", dod some other stuff. Not bad for a kid of 16 who knew jack crap about how to do it - Sears was great for the needed supplies at the time ...

Yeah 56don -I thought so too. But it needed work--hood and bumper. Grille was ok tho. Neighbor lady had it-thought the engine was shot cause it smoked bad.....real bad. Tranny was real low--new modulator valve and after a week or so the smokin cleared up. But like a dumb ass, I traded it for a Datsun two years later. Got 1200 on the trade.

It was 1970, and I bought a 50 Ford Coupe. Flathead V-8, and straight three speed. The guy wanted $75, but I beat him down to $60!!!! I drove it for about 6 months, and traded it straight across for a 52 Lincoln Capri two door hardtop......did I mention my family were all Ford freaks?

Identical to this one. I dropped a 383 with an Isky cam into it after the engine started to knock. It wasn't my choice but it could have been worse. I wanted a 58 Bel Air HT 283 stick but when Dad said you have enough cash to buy this one....I wanted to have my own car. It actually grew on me and I liked it. You always like your first car.:) I had port-a-walls, baby moons and beauty rings on it before the tags came from the state.

  7. Black '61 Chevy Impala Bubble Top with the red and white interior - 283, glide, kinda rusty, the trans would just give up transferring power at 70 mph - probably a good thing, might be why I'm still alive today

Huge split in the floorplan which happened when the rust holding it together gave up after jumping a hump backed bridge one evening.
51 bhp of 7,000 rev screaming power........ (that's about a Caddy starter motor worth)

Sold it for a profit, happy days.

1938 Chevy 2-dr sedan. $150 in 1968. Ugly as home-made sin. Drove it all summer and sold it to my best friend. He had it parked next to a building that burned down and fell on it. Probably the only thing that could have made it look worse.

1984 Chevy truck, composed almost entirely of rust, started with a screwdriver, vice grips for window handle. But had a crate 383 with about 5000 miles when I got it.

in 1985 I got a $350.00 '70 Firebird Espirt.....$1.00 per cubic inch. Pops thought it had potential.....I still have it. The 350 is powering my 56 Pontiac Wagon until I finish the restoration of the bird that I started in 1991....
