We use to put them on everything back then, those and the Hemi mufflers. They were $10 a piece back then from Chevrolet. My Falcon has the aftermarket version of them, I think Thrush but I don't remember for sure, but the aftermarket never captured the sound of the real Corvair's.

    I remember that aftershcool episode.....

That pic of the shirtless guy with the mopar reminds me off all the older guys with cars that used to visit the guy 2 doors down from me with the 67 mustang fastback and then 68 Barracuda... all i had was my banana seat bike with the hurst slick on the back and I would ride by their house and try to make the longest skid mark I could thinking it was like a burn out lol

Me with my brother's V8 Mav. This is technically in 1980, but as stated before, it was the '70s where I grew up until at least '85!

Good swap. It was turning around at that time, the whole Muscle Car scene had grown a little tired.
And Man, were there some great deals to be found at that time!

The cars in my High School Parking lot were; '69 Trans Am, Boss 302 Mustang, Hemi Charger, Cuda's, GTX, Super Bee, '69 Z/28 pace car, etc. The only real vintage tin was a '55 Dodge panel truck, with a Max Wedge. Oh yeah, and my '63 Olds Dynamic 88 4 door party wagon. The parking lot usually smelled like burnt rubber, high octane gas, and weed.

In 1970 my wife and I found out we were going to have our first child and she wanted me to give up my bike (67 Triumph TR6C) She wanted a small family car. :eek:I bought a 1970 Duster 340. It was still sold as a Valiant Duster and my brother had a couple of Valiants over the years. She liked them.
    Good news
Because it was still under the Valiant badge it was insured as a compact.
    Bad news
The first time the wife drove it her baby hormones kicked in and I thought she was going to kick me out of the car.
Two days later she fell in love with it. Go figure! We drove that car for 14 yrs.
We've been married over 45 happy yrs now.:D

I was driving down a particular street today and passed this '72-'74 Barracuda that's been sitting on the side of the same house for the last few years and thought of this thread..

Ansen slot wheels, white-letter tires, stock blue paint with the white stripe down the side. I can't recall if it had a vinyl top and while it certainly wasn't sitting high out back, I sure wouldn't change a thing on that car.

Too bad the guy won't sell it, from what a friend tells me. Wonder if he'll let me take pictures of it.

  26. Hey fellas I just realized something funny. I went over to scroll that page again which I do from time to time and it just occured to me, I didn't own a camera in the '70s. Any pics that I have from that time period were taken by someone else and given to me.
