What type of rare cars have you had?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by borderboy1971, Dec 28, 2011.

  1. I know it's been across the board before but maybe in a different way. What kind of rare cars have you had (in any form... parts etc.). I'm not sure how rare they all really are, but in the last 5 years I've had the following: 1933 Willys 4dr, 37 Willys 4dr, 1932 Ford 5w, 1932 Ford 2dr, 1932 Ford 4dr, 1933 Ford tudor, 1934 Ford 2dr x2, 1934 ford 4dr, 1963 23 window microbus vw,1957 Dodge D500 station wagon, 1948 Ford Marmon-Herrington 1.5 ton, 1946 Ford COE. Have I come across an unreasonabe amount of rare stuff in my life, or is that the general findings out there?

I've been working on a clients 1934 Chevy 2 door sedan . Its a master deluxe that is one on 11 built at the worlds fair in 1934. It had a emblem that says: a century of change, worlds fair 1934. The owner is the son of the 2nd owner of the car.

    1963 Fairlane "K" model.
1941 Ford pu "Econo 4 cylinder" model.
Not really rare. But I have a 29 Tudor Sedan that is still titled in the original owners name. Built in Dallas in October 1929. Have the original bill of sale, original Texas title and every license receipt from 1930 to 1965. Sold new in Weatherford, Texas that me grandfather took over ownership of in 1947. Our dealership serviced the car since new. Original owner gave to my grandfather in 1951 after they took his drivers license away. Not rare car or unusual, but a real one owner unrestored car. By the way, he gave it to my grandfather telling him that he didn't want any "Hot Rodders" to get their hands on it. I have left it alone. I don't want the original owner to come back and haunt me!!!

I guess the 1912 AC three wheel delivery is the most rare/unusual I've had. Sold it to an AC collector that did a fantastic restoration that won Hershey about 10 years ago.

  8. I used to have a 1955 Crown Victoria Glasstop, probably the rarest I have had. Used to have 1967 Fairlane with a 427 Tunnelport engine in it.I have a 1965 air conditioned Corvette convertible, used to have a 59 Vette and a 32 5window coupe.I don't think any of these were particularly rare though.Oh yeah , once owned a Pinto Squire station wagon....that should ruin this tread quickly.

My 1959 GMC 100 series fleet option pick up. Here's a link that explains the fleet option trucks a little bit. I don't know about the claim of "less than 100 remaining", but I do know that I have never seen another one in person.

  11. For HAMB friendly rigs... I've had:
-1945 ford 1/2 ton, not many civilian 1/2 ton pickups were sold during the war years
-1964 Dodge short box D100 CSS...dodges custom sport specials are very rare trucks
-1971 (I know, to new but its the same body from '61-'71) D100 shortbox, fleet optioned then specal ordered in Burnt (Hemi) orange, 383 big block, a833 4 speed(not the truck box) 3.92 sure grip in the 83/4 rear with 16in wheels. It was a Mine foremans truck in Utah where is spent the majority of its life underground. Talk about a wasted hotrod, it was rotted anywhere the mine dust could get stuck, and I doubt it was ever washed.
-2x 1966 390 mercury comet Calente's, never got them on the road but I had to buy them off the back of a junk car lot before they ended up junked beyond repair by the homeless/crack heads that have taken over that part of down town. They were very rough and I haven't seen or heard of them since they were loaded on the new owners trailer.
    -'55 buick century 2dr post with a 3-speed manual.....
Ok, I think thats it for mostly HAMB friendly rigs.....have had a bunch more that would,'t fit here. I have been more then lucky tracking down rare cars at the right time.

I owned a 1969 L88 427 nickey chevrolet Z-28 that I bought as a roller (no motor ,no trans) for $2500 and sold for $3500 a few years later. 1 of 2 ever made...if i would have know the future I would have kept it. It is now owned and was properly restored by a well know west coast car collector kevin Suydam.

  14. Is a 34 Ford PU with a SBC rare ... if so, I'm in ... if not, I'm also in!

My 59 SDL has a production of about 5,000 and I imagine 75% of those have gone over the scales years ago.

I have a OT vette ... one of 600 ... but OT doesnt count right??

1970 Jaguar XKE Coupe-- US spec, with 2 side drafts (instead of the more common 3). There were 4,855 Coupes made from 69-71. Does that qualify as "rare?"

When I was in college in the early '60's, I had a stock '52 Ford that started every morning for 2 years of Minnesota winters. Does that count?:D

Does a 54 Studebaker Conestoga (2 dr. wagon) count ?

It's gotta, it took almost 6 years to find a clean one once I started looking. While they do pop up every now and again...most are held together with bondo and bailing wire..and the other two are well into the five digit area..!

conditioner unit in the trunk and those clear plastic tubes in the
    package tray.

    Not super rare, but not exactly common - I now have a '36 Ford 3-window trunk-back coupe & a 1937 Chevy rumble seat coupe........guess I'm kinda stuck in a rut - late-30's coupes!

The rare cars I have had were all Pontiacs. A '66 2+2 conv., '69 Custom S, '69 Grand Prix SJ, two '69 Trans Ams, and a '70 1/2 Firebird Formula 400.

Currently have a '59 Bonneville and a '31 Pontiac coupe.
