LOL...You're right. I think I could come up with 50 more...

That car is so ugly it's cool now. Probably an ugly duckling back in it's day, but can you say the same for something newer...that is getting old...say...a Horizon?

That is a pretty good looking dash & guage pod and steering wheel. I would get that stuff out of it for sure.

  3. Definitely a '61 Plymouth. One of the best-looking Exner cars built!

Like I said earlier, it's not ugly, would Ward and June haul the Beave around in an ugly car? Not the same car exactly, it's a 62, and they needed a more door, since wally and the beaver were getting bigger, but still cool enough to impress the neighbors.

My Aunt had one when I was a kid. The dash and steering wheel always fascinated me. [IMG]

My neighbor had a white 61 Plymouth wagon when we were kids in the 70s.Grille looked evil and we were freaked by the squared off wheel.Very rusty eventually nearly broke in half due to corrosion.

Love it. Way to revive an old thread.

  18. Georgia State Patrol had a bunch of '61 Plymouths back in the day. They were fast, and the troopers loved them.

  19. It reminds me of a crab when you look at the grille. It's a whole lot of ugly but it's the kind of ugly that grows on me after a while. There are a whole lot uglier cars out there and they've been made in the last 40 years.

  21. Most of the Big 3 car makers got over their George Jetson weirdness by 1961. For some reason, Dodge/Plymouth got weird a couple years later than the others and so didn't end the weirdness until a couple years later than the rest.

Notice I didn't say "ugly" like the rest of you. "Weird" is a kinder word..... weird but interesting.

There were 3 brothers that lived across the street when I was about 15. we were all about the same age, with the older brother being 16. He had a 61 Fury convertible that we would all pile into and go cruising the local drive in restaurants. The thing I remember most was the underdash 45 rpm record player. Seems like you'd only get a half dozen plays out of the record before it was worn out. Ah, yes! Good times!

And the brakes were a mystery unto themselves .Get this ,you must park nose in , so as you back out , the "self activating brak system wakes up first time youhit brakes goin backwards ,OR you can look forward to it pullin to the left at the slightest touch allll day .Yuck .

That car is fugly, but makes for a very unique ride, you'll always be the only one anywhere you go which makes it Kool IMO. Snap that beauty up, I don't believe I've ever seen one anywhere I go and not that many back in the day that I recall. Go For It !

  25. Thanks EM! It’s a factory built 383 crossram... one of only 80 built with the crossram( none received the 413 crossram in 61) of those 80 only 11 where 4 door sedans. I’ve been told by several authorities on these cars that mine is the only one remaining of those 11. The car is an original rust free survivor, never had any restoration work, had a quick exterior repaint in the 80’s. Interior is 98% original.
