Hey out there i need help on a rearend. i have a 56 buick special tour back sedan. i need a rear end at least 52" backin plate to backing plate. i had a disc rear that i liked but the calipers hit the frame. front or back of the axle. don't really want to cut in tho the frame kinda on a time limit to get done. oh yeah the car is on air bags too. any help would be great full.

I would probably measure axle flange to axle flange since the area where the axle exits the tube will vary between donor vehicles or brake styles. This would yeild you a more accurate measurement. then I'd determine (assuming leaf springs here) what the distance between spring pads, center to center. This will get you closer. I'd guess somewhere between 58-60" at the axle flange.

79-93 ford 8.8 (make your own spring pads)
    to start with...
