Hey guys, I need to make some changes on my 50 ford, Some of my buddys say put a overdrive in and it will make a big change in how it go's down the road. It is geared to low and I would like to change it so I can drive it more, Changing the gear will cost to much I think, What about a rearend out of something else that will fit,If ya'll have any ideas let me know. Thank's for all your help, I just joined here in September and anytime I have a question Everybody has always helped. Once agin thank's :D

Always heard an 8 inch was a good fit.

What about a 8.8" from a Ranger ??? If you get one from a FX4 Level II it comes with 31 spline axles, 4:10 gears and a gear driven Torsen diff stock. Otherwise there is a quite a range of gears and diffs available fairly reasonably for that 8.8" rear.

I used one from a 1976 Maverick. It is about an inch less in width and my rear tires go on with less of a struggle. It fit without moving the spring perches by drilling a couple of holes in the perches for one u-bolt to pass through.

57-59 ford rear end from rancheros or wagons,65-66 mustang v8 rears, mavericks rear ends..there is a lot of rears you can choose from..your stock rear end measure about 57" so Anything close to that should fit..57-59 9" rears fit like a glove on 49-51 fords..I'm using a 8" from a 66 mustang it fit but I need to relocate the spring perch pad brackets..

  8. Get the 8" off an early Maverick.i believe that the 72 and later have the bigger hub and you might not be able to slap your og wheels back on.

I used the maverick 8" w/3.00 gears on my 50. I also have a c-4 auto. You don't say what your plans are for the engine/trans.... the 8" is good up to 350+ hp. Make sure you check for 5 bolt pattern if you commit to a rear end sight unseen........good luck and have fun..........
