What kinda head is this?

    It is early Chevy, buddy has one at his house. Pretty crude design, but could be opened up for 3 exhaust ports with a little work.

    290 cubes was a real powerhouse back then.

    I am going to go out on a limb again and say I believe they were more like 170 cid. Bored for racing 183 cid. Somewhere around there.

    171 cubic inches, to be exact. The stock bore is 3.6875, making an overbore to 3.75 a natural, which gives you several modern piston designs as possible replacements. Since the head is a plank design, using a piston with a taller compression height than the stock slug will bump up the compression without any other modification.

    i want to correct myself..the sixes were 290
