What information do I need to get "electronic ignition" under my distributor?

So

I'm seeing lots of different "kits"
for lots of different "nostalgic cars"
to convert their rusty old points to marvelous electronic ignition

"while keeping all the stock looking shittiness of points"

and I'm wondering what info I need to convert my
clockwise-spinning 4-cylinder distributor into a pointsless machine.
I'm already convinced the number of cylinders makes no difference, but does rotation?
