Sorry to put everyone through another "what is it thread" but I couldn't help it. They might be tractor cranks, or for somthing other than Ford, but I just don't know. Two of them have bolted on counterweights & casting numbers. Two of them have cast in counterweights and no numbers that I saw. (could be there I just didn't see them) Four total and they looked to be the same size and shape eccept for the counterweights. Thanks for looking Jeff
It's kind of hard to get a size perspective of them with nothing to compare to but they look BIG and definitely heavy duty. I'd guess maybe tractor or some kind of heavy equipment engine. I can pick my "A" crank up with one hand pretty easy.
Damn! I even had a tape measure with me! I did pick them up though, not too heavy, eaisily with one hand and they seemed to be the lenth of my forearm.....18-20" maybe? What else can I measure next time, What are the vital Banger dimensions? Jeff
For starters, need locations of mains...there were a few industrial engine cranks, allegedly Buda and Hercules, that were sometimes modified for use in B Fords. I have never run into any details on that... Ideal checkout would be to lay one on the saddles of a bare Ford block and see if things are close enough to right spans to make further measuring worthwhile. If they are really 20" long, no way...
I see oil pans in the background, what are they off of? could be a clue. also comparing the crank to the carb next to it, the crank does not seem too big.
If only I carried around a spare block in pocket..... The only other block is in my A, anybody got a spare??? I guess I'll just have to measure them and compare it to what ever I can find online. Thanks Bruce This bus was full of cranks and PTO drive units, There were also a few heads for Kaiser/Jeep flatheads too. Jeff
An A or B pan gasket would give you a flying start on comparing. Somewhat lighter than the block, too!
I would take a guess that if the bus has a bunch of jeep heads in it, that you are looking at jeep cranks those cast on and bolt on counterweights don't look like any ford part i've ever seen
Now I do have a couple of Jeep cranks I could measure. Flat and F head had the same cranks, I believe. Damn this F-head block is in the same yard: No tape measure needed. Jeff
Well, Mystery solved I found this pick on a Jeep parts site: L & F Head 134 ci Jeep Motors. Here' the website: http://www.walcks4wd.com/product.aspx?pid=1246 Jeff
