I met my wife in 1982 -- I was driving a 2-door 57 Chevrolet wagon with a warmed-over SBC 400 at the time, so she knew what she was getting into, even back then.

She's a Southern belle, a 40-something hotty, and somewhat of a delicate flower, so you won't actually see her working under a car or up to her elbows in grease, but she has no problem fetching tools for me and otherwise lending a hand on my projects, going with me to swap meets, cruises, etc. She honestly understands my insane car fascination, although she sure doesn't like the thought of me getting a Harley.

She's actually picked up the fever herself, although her tastes are a bit different than mine: her latest project is a 67 Mustang (about 80% complete now) and she's already eyeing some early Benz roadsters once the Mustang's done.

my girlfriend is a truck fiend and loves my '64 chevy...before we had "officially" started, I had sent her an email about needing to work on my truck over a weekend...she later told me she "swooned" when she read that...think she likes my truck more than she likes me...she wants me to get something older next time...probably will...

Damn!...ya stole my favorite Red Green quote!
My wife told me the other night that I hadn't been getting enough "garage time" in...oh darn...guess I'll get out there and get busy. That was on friday night and the list of stuff that I got done since impressed even me.

To you youngsters on this thread, if they have it, OK. If not, you cant give them the hot rod thing. They may try to learn it, but if they learn it to please you, its only temporary. I met a lady with really neat legs like the picture above, and she can help bleed brakes with the best. In April we will be married 19 years. A keeper for sure.

You got that right. Find one whose dad's a mechanic, hot rodder, or similar. My father-in-law wasn't a hot rodder, but he was a truck mechanic, so my wife was around garages, engines, and tools early on. Otherwise, they can only fake it for a little while. Then the bitching sets in, and THAT can go forever.

I'm getting married to my girfriend this summer. She was into racing RX7s when I met her... but last summer she bought and built her own car... a 51 Bel Air... motor, interior, everything but spraying the paint. Now she's working on a 51 Merc. :D Some of our first dates involved wet-sanding my 59 Chevy.

Met my wife 15 yrs. ago at Elvis' Birthday Party at the Continental Club. She had good taste in music, was wearing a pair of hot pants that I'll never forget, and her only car was a '64 Impala. Sold.

She's not the type to do the brakes or build a freakin' 51 Chevy by herself, but she does help out in the garage, especially when I'm working on her Shine-O-Matic. And she plans on spending some time getting dirty working on the Field Car. She has her own taste and opinions on styles, makes and models of cars, which is usually a good thing. She doesn't really like hot rods, but she doesn't complain about riding in the coupe either. All in all, I consider myself pretty dang lucky and not even close to worthy.

I've always told her that when she turns 40, I was trading her in for two 20yr. olds. Well, she turns 40 this year, but I guess I'll keep her.

At the GNRS on Saturday I had this conversation with my wife. (Been together 6 years, married almost 4)

"You know that you've ruined me and Erin." (her 17 y.o. daughter)
    "How's That?"
"Well we were driving the other day and came accross a Fairlane. We both turned to check it out and then talked about lowering it and changing the wheels."
"Don't think of it as ruined... I think of it as Improved."

She's no where close to comming out to the garage to spin wrenchs but at least she's heading in the right direction.

I'm glad of mine, most days.

I had a Harley and loved it....she bought her own instead of riding on the back of mine.

She's the one who won't let me sell the 53, Herman.

I've got six others, but she wanted a rod...so we bought the 40 Plymouth coupe. A keeper and a looker and loves speed...though I get whacked riding 100 with her on the back of the bike.

guess I should add after reading the thread...many of my bike riding friends married pretty gals...then gave up riding and sold their bikes.

If you can't be you, who are you? And for how long? Marry her dude, afore she gets away.

i should add that our wedding date was largely determined by the Hot Rod Cinematic date :D

  15. Can't make that claim about Mrs. 'Beaner I'm afraid. Here dad was a rodder and she liked me because I was completely out of control and her own words, " the only real rodder in the school."

Real cool deal to have your girl/wife so involved. I've been married almost 3 years now and my wife has progressed nicely and she has her own '52 chevy pickup that she drives regularly.

My problem is I'm up shit creek when she realizes how much these rods cost to build and keep running..................

My old lady was into the shiny crap til she got bit by rust and oxidation, now I have to argue to paint anything! Thats alright tho, more time to drive the whels off em. She loves to go junk yarding! Even if all she does is freeze her ass off and carry parts! She's a keeper so I had to marry her!
