my buddy says it's a 4100 Cadillac , they where junk. the throttle body gives it away
the 472 and 500 had carbs.

I'd say it's a 368, introduced in 1980 with TBI, the same TBI later used in other GM engines. It was an attempt to meet CAFE standards, not successful. The 368 was same engine family as the 425 and 472, same stroke, smaller bore. It's not the 8-6-4 engine, because the 8-6-4 engine had distinctive valve covers for the deactivation of 4 cylinders. The 4100, introduced in '82 with a whopping 250 CID, was a new engine design, with an aluminum block and cast iron heads. Does the engine pictured have an aluminum block with cast iron heads?

The stamped numbers on the driver's side of the block are useless. See if the guy can get you the raised numbers from the passenger side of the block near the bell housing.

  15. Don't wast your Euros on that POS. Those engines were junk from teh day they were introduced. Look for an engine with a better service reputation.

Its no 4100 and its a late 70s or ealy 80s TBI caddy motor like mentioned above,GM started putting EFI on higher end cars in the late 70s. I seen a 350 olds with a primitive EFI system that probably came out of a caddy seville that had what looked to be a throttle body with idividual injectors like a tuned port

Does that have the single plane aluminum intake that fits a 500?

Sure looks alot like a 500 I have in the shop...the exception being the raised portion above the bell housing at nearly 12:00.
And, IIRC, many of the mid & late 70's 500 had TBI.

With that intake a 472 or 500 could possibly be converted to EFI and I did see a RWD Seville with EFI and it was back in 79 or 80,it would not start and after looking under the hood I told the lady driving it there was nothing I could do to help her since it was the first car I seem with EFI and knew nothing about them.
