I try to do different things, open my mind to new ideas etc. but, it seems that I always gravitate back to the same era. 1958-1960 is my favorite.

I wish I was stuck in the 60s when you could race your street car and be competitive. NHRA was setup to get racing off the street now it's all about the pros and big money.

Not sure I'm 'stuck', but I prefer late-'50's to maybe '62 builds of late-30's fat fendered coupes.

2020!! If I see something I like I use it. Don't have to worry about being period correct.

IMG_0928.JPG For me the Hot Rod Hay Day was from 1960-1965. Muscle Cars from the factory and hot rods were everywhere. Cruising, street racing and looking for hide. Drag Racing on weekends with our 36 Ford drag car we built in my Grandpa's garage. Originally flathead powered and later swapped for a 327 SBC. I'm the skinny kid in the middle. My current ride is a 60 Pontiac Bubbletop (avatar).
I truly feel sorry for those who were born too late and missed the 60's. American Graffiti was not a myth. Cruising, street racing and drag racing was what we did. It was having fun every day just like Milner said.ATTACH=full]4755244[/ATTACH]

Early to mid 60s I guess.... my earlier cars are more modified, where my 62 Impala and 65 Riviera are pretty much stock, that´s how I like them.... but the theme is around early 60s. But that´s also the music I like best, garage, soul... the dirtier the better.

I think, I can narrow it down a bit more.... probably from a mid 50s style to the early mag wheel era...

depends on the car...I can do lots of different things. Today, I was in the beginning of the Great Depression. When I drive my Chevy II, I'm in 1966. In my old truck, I'm in the 1980s.

I guess the late 50's early 60's, have built 2 V8 A's with flatheads: a lowered nosed and decked 50 Ford, 53 Merc and a mild custom 60 T-Bird in the last 20 years. Actually got a drivers license in 63 but seem to be more into the 50's. Years ago had a 56 & 57 Chevy, a 50 Merc and a 49 F1, seems to bae a flathead theme here.

  17. I was 12 years old the day I saw this cover of hot rod magazine at the corner drug store I was hooked, I talked my mom into buying it for me and knew from that very day I was going to have a hot rod like the young man on the cover, I joke about blaming Dean Lowe for my obsession with hot rods and never dreamed I would eventually find him on the hamb.

    I love the 50's & 60's hot rods. HRP

  18. For customs its the late 50's early 60's, hot rods I like mid 50's to late 60's. Then even in the slightly o/t era of the late 60's I like the stock muscle cars or what has been dubbed "day 2" level of changes. I try to keep up with at least knowing the trends of my actual age group so I can still talk with buddies, but it just never interests me I will always come back to the old stuff.

    Pretty cool, huh?

  20. Born in the early forties; breaking hearts and kicking ass in the mid-fifties. I'm pretty much bonded to those newfangled overhead-valve V8s.

I am in the late 50's early 60's as well. I wonder if Dean would come on here and tell the story of how a guy that young comes up with a car good enough to score the cover of Hot Rod magazine? Has to be to a story there!

Since my main interest is the Gas Class cars, and I graduated high school in 1968, I love 60's car builds. The cars can be anything from the 1930's to 1960's, but not everything during that period. My favorites are 30's cars done as 60's gassers. As long as they're not some dorky street freak that's too high, and gives me a nose bleed!

  27. '60 thru '67. My high school years, pre-war Willys dominated all drag racing, Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild contest, Revell National Model contest, and the Ed Roth/ Sandy Koufax era. Perfect time. Ed was cranking out absolutely genius material and you had total justification for expecting Vin Scully and Jerry Doggett to broadcast a Koufax perfect game every 4 days.

I love the 90's. turquoise with pink dry brush graphics, Boyds wheels, all that cool billet, and a tan tweed interior.

    those were the days.

None...I enjoy All of them...from the primitive to the polished. I am in awe of all the innovation and change to factory born or otherwise automobile right up till 65...totally get the cut-off and I also enjoy those building inspired Hotrod/Custom utilizing past historical greatness as a catalyst for their Artistic Genius...
